6 Million PS3's sold by March

Sony Corp., the world’s largest maker of video-game players, is maintaining its forecast of selling 6 million PlayStation 3 units for the fiscal year that ends in March, a spokesman said.

Yeah you read that right, this was reported by Bloomberg.com this morning…. They are talking about March 2007 as well.

Maybe someone should tell Sony that we are already in March?

Currently according to www.nexgenwars.com the PS3 has sold a grand total of 1.6 million. They have also already announced that they are shipping 1 million consoles to Europe for the PAL release (23 March). Which would give them a total of 2.6 million if they are all sold.

So unless Sony has been hiding some really ground breaking numbers they are going to be short 3.4 million, which is more than they have sold since release….

Umm I think you may have misread the article in the link

“March 15 (Bloomberg) — Sony Corp., the world’s largest maker of video-game players, is maintaining its forecast of selling 6 million PlayStation 3 units for the fiscal year that ends in March, a spokesman said.”

It then goes on to say

“Sony will provide estimates on May 13 for shipments of PlayStation 3 for the fiscal year that ends in March 2008, Nick Sharples said today in an interview at the Cebit trade fair in Hanover, Germany.”

Which would be next years estimates…. So no they are talking about 2007 and no it is not a typo in my or their report…..

So nowhere do they say 2007, you just assume it’s 2007.

Sony said they are maintaining their 6 million target, which means the target was made before and they are just re-affirming it… Sony last re-affirmed this target in September last year and it was originally made in March 2006. No assumptions here.

They do however say shipped and not sold which could theoretically mean shipped to their warehouse.
