60GB Xbox 360 sales not looking great

It seems that the new 60GB SKU from Microsoft isn’t selling quite as well as they were hoping.

According to reports from major game retailers GAME and Gamestation, the sales are not what they were hoping for.

A source from GAME gave a comment saying that “the 60GB sales have been sluggish”. He also added that “Microsoft expected a demand for the 60GB model but it just hasn’t come yet.”

Should Microsoft be worried?

I personally don’t see any reason for anyone to rush out and buy one just yet. I think that once the new dashboard update is released, the demand will go up but even then, I can’t see people rushing out to get 60GB models straight away.

They aren’t however, selling really badly. A source from Gamestation says that they “are still selling ok but just not at the rate Microsoft had wanted.”

The source from GAME has also said that the new PS3 SKU will debut in the UK earlier than expected and that the stock has already arrived.

I think is is because the Xbox 360 is becoming irrelevant. What with Paying to play online, proprietary Harddrives, if you want to backup your games you have to use an overpriced mem card instead of a usb stick, rrod, DRM issues, No HD video format, etc, I think people just don’t care about it any more.

It is even more apparent here in SA. Even the IC adds that you get with your local newspaper only has Wii, PSP, PS3 related items in there now. They used to always have 360 stuff in there.

sadly, i think the xbox is in for a tough time, a every tough time, and if Microsoft don’t act, they might find themselves losing a bit of money in the generation!

I wonder how the 160gb ps3 will do though? I mean, 60 gig’s is old news, hell the ps3 was released with it(the best model ever made :D) but 160, thats sure to grab peoples attention, i mean, that’s a big hard drive in console terms. I think sony is going for the whole mass media machine, which is very clever, and in the end might just win. Microsoft better pull a rabbit out of their hat dam soon or else we might see a 2 horse race…

I don’t understand it, it is probably cheaper to buy a new 360 than to upgrade the Harddrive?

Come on MS, drop the HDD price!!!
