The 20Gb, 40Gb and 60gb PS3’s have all been discontinued in Japan, leaving the 80Gb as the only standard, regularly available SKU. If a notice by Japan’s 7-Eleven is to be believed, then the 80Gb unit is going the way of the dildo dodo soon too. According to the chain retail store pre-orders for the Black, White and Silver 80GB PS3 will cease on Sunday, August 9 at 10am, at the manufacturer’s behest.
Does this mean that Sony will be phasing in the 160Gb model – previously only available as a limited bundle – or is this is a portent to the imminent availability of the oft-rumoured PS3 Slim?
