Activision Comment On Call Of Duty Brands' Return – And I Don't Believe Them

So after the reveal posted earlier that the Call of Duty name would be returning to the Modern Warfare 2 title, Activision have explained why it’s back.

A spokesperson from Activision had the following to say:

“We have focused our attention on Modern Warfare in order to most effectively communicate the fact that this is the first true sequel in the Call of Duty series.”

“Infinity Ward, the original creators of the Call of Duty franchise, has said from the beginning Modern Warfare 2 resides in the Call of Duty universe. This is reflected in the title’s package.”

Excuse me, you have got to be kidding, right? I know the real reason that it’s back.

First of all, could this have been said by the very same spokesperson who told Gamecenteronline.net that:

“Modern Warfare has taken on such a life of its own, it has become our focus now”

The real reason it’s back goes way back to something we posted up a while back. We posted that market research had found that the game was losing a lot of awareness with the public when the Call of Duty name was not mentioned.

This obviously means a couple of tons worth of money will go down the toilet if Activision had left out the COD brand. It’s straightforward and it makes sense so why not just friggin’ say it instead of spewing out contradictory tripe about true sequels and all that jazz.

You sell games to make money, you are a business, we get it. Just do us a favour and stop pretending like it was for any other reason.

Hey I just know its gonna be a good game 🙂 “Shrug”

i agree… i don’t care what they call it or what moniker is used as a prefix or suffix.
just as long as they ship a good game.

  • How do you know that it was never going to be this way from the beginning??

as far as I can see infinity ward have always considered Modern Warfare 2 to always fall under the COD universe, and as far as I can see it is still being referred too as Modern Warfare 2

take for example the Tom Clancy Games all the games fall under the Tom Clancy Universe but we never refer to it as Tom Clancy Splinter Cell we refer to it as Splinter Cell? make sense? this is how a franchise develops 😉

I don’t know that’s just my 2 cents I’m with Dark on this one doesn’t matter what they call it it’s going to rock, even if the name changed and people will still get it cause it’s a quality title. 🙂

well if the average Joe doesnt know that Modern warfare is a seqaul to is succesful predecesor than your just plain stupid

  • It was never going to be this way from the beginning because they announced they wouldn’t have it in, then when the first promo trailers and such arrived, there was zero mention of COD anywhere. Then the market research arrived and now suddenly it’s back.

Everyone knows that this game is going to be incredible, and that it will still sell like hotcakes. All I ask is that companies like this dont do something right in front of us and then just say “no we didn’t”.

It’s like watching a Monty Python skit.
