The 40GB PS3 was released in the US one day before these figures were closed off so I think it is safe to say that we can expect another spike next week.
Living in deepest darkest Africa has kept us from experiencing a huge software event that happened in the USA last week. Guitar Hero III was released. Now to be honest I knew about it happening but I didn’t fully the significance of it..
Guitar Hero III has taken 4 of the top 5 spots in the software charts with only Wii Sports beating out the PS3 version of Guitar Hero to break the run.
However what is shocking to see is how the 360 is clearly the home of Guitar Hero III, here is a breakdown of sales by console
360 – 798,671
Wii – 271,053
PS2 – 254,596
PS3 – 113,040
Compare those figures the blockbuster Ratchet & Clank +- 95k in it’s opening week and you can see why I said it wasn’t a system mover.
Microsoft is smiling all the way to the bank in the US….
Oh lets not forget the console sales
Wii – 146,934 (+7%)
360 – 138,778 (+2%)
PS3 – 55,446 (+26%)
So the PS3 is improving but it still has a long way to go in the US to catch the other two…

GH, lame? OMG, I have heard it all. GH is fantastic, who the hell hasn’t air guitared before? Here it goes 10 steps futher. I can’t wait for GH3 to release here. I’ll get it on the 360 though as you need a working guitar.

Eh most of the people I know who play GH are woman…so there goes that theory.
Honestly playing a FPS or racing game etc. would most likely be considered more geeky than GH by the average Joe. GH is more of a social game.

I wouldn’t go as far as to say MGS is for sissies, but I will say that I don’t see the appeal.
GH is loads of fun. (and i do play the guitar as well) It’s really a pity we’re not getting the bundle yet, was waiting for that so that the gf and I could play co-op.

My gf loves GH as well. 360 just has better games right now. PS3 doesn’t even come close. Wii is just a different target market.
