With the well kept secret of the PS3 Slim causing much glee with its shock announcement at GamesCom, analysts have weighed in on whether we’ll be seeing a similar size-reducing hardware redesign from the camp at Redmond. At least one analyst reckons indubitably so, leading me to believe that the reason that “analyst†contains the word ‘anal†is because they’re so full of sh*t.
David Cole of DFC intelligence believes it’s only a matter of time before Microsoft plays the “me-too†game and announces its own anorexic console. “I think it is a question of when not if,” he suggests. “However, the when part is a big uncertainty … rumors have been going on for a long time. I think people were asking me the same question last year at this time. As cost efficiencies allow smaller and more reliable is always a good thing. However, you also have something like Project Natal which could also tie in with hardware redesigns.â€
Here’s a good idea : Take a poorly designed console with known overheating issues and stuff it in to an even smaller casing, where it will likely create enough heat to a perpetuate self-sustaining nuclear fusion, fusing hydrogen atoms into helium ones and a resultant thermonuclear explosion. You don’t want to be responsible for destroying life as we know it, do you Microsoft?
