Analyst : Xbox 360 Slim coming…Sometime.

360Slim

With the well kept secret of the PS3 Slim causing much glee with its shock announcement at GamesCom, analysts have weighed in on whether we’ll be seeing a similar size-reducing hardware redesign from the camp at Redmond. At least one analyst reckons indubitably so, leading me to believe that the reason that “analyst” contains the word ‘anal” is because they’re so full of sh*t.

David Cole of DFC intelligence believes it’s only a matter of time before Microsoft plays the “me-too” game and announces its own anorexic console. “I think it is a question of when not if,” he suggests. “However, the when part is a big uncertainty … rumors have been going on for a long time.  I think people were asking me the same question last year at this time. As cost efficiencies allow smaller and more reliable is always a good thing. However, you also have something like Project Natal which could also tie in with hardware redesigns.”

Here’s a good idea : Take a poorly designed console with known overheating issues and stuff it in to an even smaller casing, where it will likely create enough heat to a perpetuate self-sustaining nuclear fusion, fusing hydrogen atoms into helium ones and a resultant thermonuclear explosion. You don’t want to be responsible for destroying life as we know it, do you Microsoft?

I think this is MS’s chance to incorporate a Bluray drive and tidy up the heat problems. Else PS3 will gain market share.
I expect MS to reslease a “slim” with natal

Who knows, maybe even fixing all the *slight* issues that the Xbox has IF the slim is released. I say *slight* because I have had my Xbox for so long and NOTHING has happend yet. So I am still waiting for the so called RROD, but I think I will be waiting too long… cause I aint seeyin anything. Guess my 360 is an  sent from above!

the game has a rudimentary sort of region locking (Yes, screwed AGAIN).

There is a workaround though; You need to clear any updates you have for the game, and delete any saves you have – Then set your region to UK (unless you have the US version of the game). Run the game (making sure there are no saves to be found) and enter the in-game music store.

If done correctly, you’ll be able to download tracks from within the game.

BR is dead. Disk is dead. Digital is the way of the future.

handheld devices are a totally different ball game to consoles. most games that are released on hard media for consoles weigh in at roughly 6-9gb, and with 120gb being the largest hdd for stock consoles… problems will arise pretty quickly.
as per the previous posters crystal ball prediction (statement?), consoles will need to be shipped with much larger hdd’s or go the route of ‘cloud consoles’, which is not entirely practical with current bandwidth infrastructure.

we still a good few years off before we see it becoming viable.
