I haven’t enjoyed a film adaptation of video game since the Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li. Ha ha, just kidding, that’s possibly one of the worst thing ever committed to celluloid. I dislike such adaptations, and tend to like them even less when they’re based on games I don’t care too much for. I’m not expecting to enjoy the Angry Birds movie that’s recently been announced…when it rolls around in 2016.

Yeah, believe it or not, but studio executives are planning to turn the throwaway mobile game sensation based on a completely stolen concept in to a full-length feature film.Hopefully it’s animated, or the casting is going to be a nightmare.

It’s to be directed by Despicable Me producer John Cohen, and produced by the guy performed the same task on Marvel’s Iron Man.

“John’s an exceptionally talented producer, and we’re delighted to have him join the flock,” said Mikael Hed…head of Rovio Entertainment – who’ll be funding the thing. “With John’s hands-on producer background and David´s expertise in establishing and running his own successful studio, these two are the dream team for making a movie outside the studio system.

“Both professionals have the ideal skills and vision to achieve incredible things.”

Apparently, Rovio will retain complete creative control over the project. no word on what it will be about, but I have it on good authority it’ll have something to with naughty green piggies stealing some eggs or something.

And though Angry Birds is still a bit of a phenomenon three years later, and does tremendous amounts of bank through merchandising an the like…I’m left wondering if anybody really cares about watching an Angry Birds movie. And those that do care…will they still care in four years time?
