Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. And where there’s an opportunity for Capcom to rerelease a game, they’ll take it. An earlier retailer listing suggested that we’d be getting a rejiggered Street Fighter V early next year. Now, Amazon’s listed the impending Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition as well.

If you’ll recall, Capcom said it wouldn’t perpetually release different version of Street Fighter V, and they’re largely sticking to that. Instead, this is a rerelease that’ll pack in new content – the much requested Arcade Mode. That new content will also be coming to existing owners of the game as a free update, so there’s no pressure to buy the game anew. Newcomers, however, might want to use this as the jumping in point.

Says Amazon’s Listing:

Current players of Street Fighter V and future owners of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will be placed into the same player pool, with PlayStation 4 and PC cross-platform play continuing to unite fans into a unified player base. The initial Street Fighter V purchase is still the only one that consumers need to make to ensure they always have the most up-to-date version of the title. All of the post launch gameplay content, such as the DLC characters in Street Fighter V, is earnable completely free of charge through completing various in-game challenges and receiving earned in-game currency, called fight money. For those who just can’t wait to unlock each piece of new content, content can also be obtained instantly using purchased in-game currency.

Features

Arcade Mode – Choose from six different paths themed after classic Street Fighter games.

Gallery – Unlock hundreds of illustrations as you play through Arcade Mode.

Extra Battle – Complete timed challenges to obtain exclusive costumes throughout 2018.

New V-Triggers – Each character will have two V-Triggers, adding even more depth to the combat system.

New Visuals – The user interface is being redesigned with new color schemes, revised menus, and exciting pre-and-post-fight effects

Street fighter V is a very good fighting game, but it launched with an anaemic suite of modes – one of the reasons that the game just hasn’t had the success that Capcom or anyone in the fighting game community would have hoped. There are also some other mistakes that Capcom made, not least of which was simplifying the gameplay to attract a new audience, but then releasing the game in a state that would only appeal to core fighting game fans.

[Update: Officially revealed with a trailer]

These new changes should hopefully add a bit of depth and longevity to the game, with a new menu system that makes it a little more welcoming. It’s apparently out early next year.
