Gametrailers giving dodgy comparisons

Okay I am not going to write to much into this as I don’t know a huge amount about it.

However I always use Gametrailers.com’s comparison videos as they seemed to be the most professional and legit. However that may not be the case..

Gamevideos.com has come out and stated….

We don’t create these videos for the fanboys. That’s not the point. We create them so that people who own both systems can be a little more informed on which version to buy. It’s the fanboys that turn the comments section for these videos into a debacle.
As for using RGB or adjusting the white levels on the PS3, that completely defeats the point of these videos. We play both systems on default settings with the same cabling. If we were to adjust the settings on the PS3 to make it look better then we’d be sacrificing the integrity of the video. It’s not the other way around.

Now like I mentioned I don’t know what that means, however the forums are going nuts about it and saying that this is giving the Xbox 360 a completely unfair advantage. If this is true then it really is a huge disappointment as I really did trust them.

Is this yet another gamespot debacle?

Well what they say is they review using the default settings… they don’t make the changes on the PS3 ( RGB or white levels) So the PS3 can be much better than they show but you have to adjust your software … so in my mind and yes im a PS3 fan, this is a standard feature of the PS3

I’m a PS3 fan, but what they say is fair. Both consoles on default settings, if the 360’s default setting provide it with a better picture then it’s well done to them.

The only alternative is to adjust both machines to be at their peak, which is highly subjective and takes time.

I see nothing wrong with the way they are doing it.

Wow you two are up early 🙂

I have to say I am leaning towards @Banana Hammock’s point of view here. I know that everyone prefers something different so leaving the default settings seems to be the most logical thing.

Hold on, how can running two machines at their default settings prejudice either one? Surely running it that way is the only way one can get an objective result – by tweaking settings to improve an image on one would be unfair.

I stopped trusting GT when I saw their Assassins Creed comparison.

Ocelot – that’s one of the reviews that triggered the argument, but I agree with the GT guy. The RGB and white settings are adjustable on many levels – the console, the games, the TV set, so there’s no point trying to fiddle every game. As he says in a different quote, the point of the comparisons to to highlight differences in important things, like Framerate, textures, animations, jaggies, object count etc. Brightness is not an issue.

However, cant you adjust these settings for ps3 as a once off in the main system settings, i.e they then apply across all games?
But yea I agree with bananaH,if you really want it to be subjective then both should be on defaults.
But honestly now, all this boils down to is consoles wars.
Should we really be fighting over who’s is bigger still?
Both consoles have sold enough to make sure they arnt going anywhere, so why not sit back and enjoy your games!
