I remember the first time I looked a forum to see what players wanted in new Assassin’s Creed games there was mention of an asian, female assassin. It’s been at the top of the list for some time now, and Ubisoft is finally giving us what we want. And it looks gorgeous.
Continuing in the new tradition for modern games, Ubisoft has announced the Season Pass for Assassin’s Creed Unity – why wait for a game to launch before punting the DLC? This season pass will cost $30 and includes a bunch of new gear, as well as a new campaign and an entirely new game – Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China
Here is the trailer to show off all the things.
Of course there will be extra missions and items for the Paris section of the game, but I find the Dead Kings and China portions a whole lot more interesting. Dead Kings takes place in Saint Denis, where the monarchs were buried. As explained by Creative Director Alex Amancio in the video, this is the darkest story that Ubisoft has ever told with the Assassin’s Creed franchise. It’s filled with puzzles and a whole new evil faction to fight against. Sounds good to me.
However, best of all is the Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China game. It’s a completely different game, taking place in 16th century China with players taking on the role of Shao Jun, a fan-favorite from the Assassin’s Creed Embers animated movie.
Experience an entirely new setting for the franchise in a beautifully stylized world inspired by traditional brush paintings. Shao Jun’s powerful martial arts skills and new Assassin gear like the Jian Sword and the Foot Blade will allow her to eliminate her targets from the shadows or take on groups in all-out combat. Explore legendary landmarks like the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City and encounter famous historical figures in this new 2.5D digital download title.
Early footage of the game is reminding me of Mark of the Ninja; if this game lives up to or surpasses that gameplay experience, it will already be worth the Season Pass purchase. It’s a different type of game – 2.5D isn’t what we’re used to with Assassin’s Creed games. I’m sure people will make fun of Ubisoft about this, too – saying that they couldn’t animate the woman properly so they took away some of her dimension. However, this is a fantastic approach to the genre and allows for a distinct aesthetic for the game. I’m honestly excited to play it.
I know we get irritated when games that haven’t even shipped already have DLC and Season Passes. However, with this amount of extra content, it really does seem worthwhile. As much as I get upset with DLC, a Season Pass at least takes away that feeling of getting hit up for cash every month – pay once and get all the things as they become available. I will certainly be purchasing this Season Pass, if only so that I can play as Shao Jun and explore Saint Denis.

Actually, that seems like a pretty shweet deal. Yeah, we all moan about DLC and having to pay for things that should be in the game… But the Saint Denis and the AC: China game are completely new – they don’t add / take-away from the core experience. They’re extra and, quite frankly, if they are as good as they sound, I’m quite happy to pay a little extra to have them.
I’m really excited for AC: Unity. And the extra content here? Well, it makes me even more excited. Me thinks the Season Pass shall be mine too.

i still haven’t forgiven Ubisoft for AC 3, bought it brand new off a buddy for R300 and i still feel ripped off, one of the few games i’ve never bothered completing

So in actuality AC has 3 games coming within a short space of time…sheesh just how big is Ubisoft.
Slightly/wholly off-topic – was listening to a podcast yesterday and the one comment was “With the money MS spent buying Mojang, they could have bought Ubisoft as Ubi’s market capitalisation is approx $1.5bn…” (note I am not sure how true that market cap is but if it is…)
That is one scary thought!!! In a whole bunch of ways!

Don’t suppose you could get the China DLC separately? I’d play the hell out of that.
As a side note, I was playing the AC3 DLC on Sunday & it’s actually pretty good. Finished the 1st 2 episodes. They’re nice little chunks of story that aren’t too long, although if you hunt down all the chests for upgrades & stuff it’ll take some time, has a decent story & the animal powers are a nice change of pace. Doesn’t feel like something that was slapped together for a quick buck.

I wouldn’t write that idea off – they did it with Freedom Cry for ACIV; so probably is something that will happen? I would be more surprised if it doesn’t.

Oh wow. At a quandary here …. I like this. I really do. But alas, I can’t pre-order it; and, as a result, can’t pre-order the season pass either. Two reasons for that: 1. It’s Ubisoft (and their track record of PC games is not exactly sparkling) and 2. I pre-ordered Witcher 3 and that’s my cash well and truly spent.
Damn …

Very interesting that they chose to make a 2.5D game for China instead of a full game.
Looks cool though, will definitely grab this at some point.
Played all the AC games so far, just started Black Flag and it’s been awesome so far.

not very far, I stupidly got it at the same time I picked up Destiny (shop had a cheap second hand copy). Only finished Sequence 2, where you get your own ship.

I assume you on PS4? Or PS3? Or MS console? You can’t be on PC as you playing Destiny 🙂

lol same here.
This franchise has been milked to the point that it is now just paint by numbers.
But alas, like other Ubisoft games that are breaking all records with Watchdogs beating Ass 3s 13million copies sold. Expect more.

so much meh.
30$ for a seasons pass… seasons passes shouldnt cost 60% of the total price of the game (pc)
they finally bring in China to the series, which i wanted more than a female assassin, and its a side scroller. #disappointment

played/owned and finished all AC games. Black Flag and AC 2 is still my favourite in the series. Hope Unity brings something fresh to the table. But I am so hooked on destiny I can’t stop playing! even diablo 3 has taken a back seat o.O
