Arkham Origins (2)

Batman ain’t so tough! I’d punch him right in the rubber nipples if I ever met him! If that’s a sentiment that you’ve uttered before, well then good news! Provided that you’re not buying a Wii U version of Batman: Arkham Origins, then chances are that you’ll get to see if an assault rifle can beat a vigilante with mommy issues in a street fight. Because this Bat-prequel is getting some extra online attention.

B:AO will be taking to the servers when the game releases in October, with a multiplayer mode developed by Splash Damage Studios. Called Invisible Predator, the mode puts players in the shoes of gang member, from either the Joker or Bane crews.

Meanwhile, other players will be stalking you as the Batman or his trusty sidekick Robin, equipped with the usual assortment of gadgets and takedowns. Things get more interesting though, when players have to deal with not only rival gangsters, but the vigilantes as well. Gangsters have to capture and hold checkpoints, while avoiding a Bat-punch to the nuts.

Players who are perching on gargoyles as the vigilantes though, will want to prevent these takeovers though, intimidating and clearing the screen of these thugs as the game goes on, with random players being chosen to fill in as Batman or Robin as the rounds tick away.

It actually sounds like the kind of multiplayer that’ll suit the primarily single-player nature of the Arkham games, and the potential here for some more innovative competition is massive, as players will have to do more than just run and gun their way to victory.

But for me, the coolest bit is getting a chance to play as either Bane or the Joker. That just adds another level to the game. And hopefully, Splash Damage has learnt enough from the disaster that was Brink, to not mess this one up.

It’s just a pity that Wii U owners won’t get a chance to experience this, as Warner Bros Interactive have decided that that platform isn’t big enough for the effort of porting over.

“MP will be available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson told Eurogamer. “The team is focusing development efforts on platforms with the largest MP audience.”

Well, at least then the game should be cheaper on Wii U, since it’s missing that chunk of value, amirite? Hahahahahaha, you’d have to be crazier than the Joker to believe that such an idea would happen.
