Battlefield 1943 Server Problems – Damn you EA for making a great game

I spent about 6 hours playing Battlefield 1943 last night and I have to say that the game is awesome. It’s an arcade title which means that we can ignore the imperfect graphics and lack of multiplayer options but I think that actually gives it some of it’s charm.

It’s just fun and easy to play, a typical pick up and play title… but this is where it all goes wrong because it took me 45 minutes to get into a game last night.

EA have once again published an awesome title and failed to setup the infrastructure required for it. Mere moments after the game became available to download the EA servers reached capacity and thousands of people around the globe were left looking at a loading screen.

This isn’t the first time that an EA title has struggled with capacity issues and it really isn’t acceptable for to keep happening. Instead of installing the minimal infrastructure required and then boosting it if a game is popular, EA should be installing at least double the expected infrastructure and then removing servers and recycling them if they are no longer required.

I honestly believe that EA are losing money over this because unless they resolve this issue in the next 24 hours people will start recommending that their friends don’t buy the game and they themselves will just move onto something else.

This title has a real possibility of sticking around for months to come but only if EA solve their issues and quickly

(And yes I do realise the irony in complaining about a title being to popular)
