Best Competition in the World… Ever?

clip_image001This has got to be one of the best competitions that I have ever come across in my life..

I was browsing the FHM site, for the articles, and came across the following

How about FHM and Xbox 360 come over to your place with Xbox 360’s, pizza, beer and hot babes? We then entertain you and nine of your mates with your choice of the latest games. Sounds like the perfect lads’ night!
QUESTION: What number is associated with Xbox?
SMS XBOX + ANSWER TO 34973

I’m going to help you all out here as long as you promise that I will be one of the nine mates.

The answer is 360…. Unfortunately this competition is only open to Jozi residents but I strongly suggest you coastal people enter and if you win I will fly you up to my place in Jozi to join us…

And if anyone from FHM is reading, I have no problems coming to judge the gameplay either…

If I win you are definitely invited Lazy. Along with Doobiwan and Evilred. Should be a blast.

I never understand this whole “You have to live in Johannesburg” prejudice when it comes to so many gaming-related competitions in South Africa… It really sucks 🙁

*Not that I have much use for hot girls and beer, however 😉

Why is it that there’s always competitions for male gamers, what about competitions for female gamers?

[re=11097]doobiwan[/re]: Just tell her you won a lazygamer comp to play games all weekend 🙂

[re=11101]Domino[/re]: Because the people who organise the competitions don’t know what girl gamers want to win?

Its quite simple the same thing male gamers wants to win except for the hot babes 😉 its not about being male or female but being a gamer in general. Any gamer would like to win some games. There’s so many female gamers out there, but they are just too scared to come out. So a competition for female gamers would be great to promote female gaming in this country.

I do agree with you Domino and I am still amazed at just how many people don’t understand that there are a lot of girl gamers as well….

Maybe I can have a chat with the distributors and come up with something that isn’t Barbie Horse Trials or Cooking Mama 🙂

Oh but you have to enter the other competition first

Thanks Lazy that sounds good, I’m always happy with a gears or halo comp 😉 BTW entered your comp don’t know why cause I already finished the game on the xbox. But you asked so nicely I couldn’t resist.

I work for an advertising agency and it has taken me a few years now to FINALLY convince the decision makers that female consumers would actually really like a laptop as a prize.

As for proposing a Wii, PSP, or 360 as a prize, I haven’t had any luck yet. So ladies, I’m afraid you’re stuck with spa treatments and pamper packs for now… *snore*

@Pfangirl- I feel the same. There’s no gaming or tech conventions in Durban. At least we do get the A1 GP 🙂

Well the fact that its a FHM comp does kinda show why its targeted at male gamers 😉 as for the prize, screw the games, the rest of the prize will keep me more than occupied 😀

For what it’s worth I also think it sucks that it’s JHB only. What kind of nonsense is that? I’m sorry if you can organise the groupies in JHB you’ll be able to organise them here in CPT! Hell this reminds me of those old phone in competitions that were region based! Rediculous.

I’m just curious why when it comes to girl gaming everything seems to circle around to competitive gaming?

Out of the girl gamers I know the vast majority are playing adventure games, MMORGs, some RTS and the Sims (of course). I seriously doubt a LAN (which always seems to imply FPS gaming) is going to lure these “normal” female gamers out of the closet.

Instead all you’re likely to find is hardcore, aggro FPS chickies, who hardly represent the average gaming girl.

Fair enough, but it’s a matter of creating awareness, breaking down stereotypes. You can’t really do that playing Peggle, but I agree that typical games are just not the fairer sexes cup of tea.

The problem is that there are very few non combat social games. (Besides sport, which is still Male Dominated. Tennis maybe?) I’m working on it, but my XNA skills suck 😉

Yeah, PC is my main gaming platform, although I also pull out my PS2 now and then when I need a break from World of WarCraft (which has pretty much sucked up all my limited playing time since August last year).

Haven’t been able to justify a PS3 or 360 purchase yet.

The WOW thing is because a group of us decided to start playing at around the same time, which made it a lot more fun as a social experience. It’s become a major hobby I suppose you’d say, though I’m definitely NOT a power leveller.

Otherwise I’m a big action-adventure fan. Going to hopefully pick up Assassin’s Creed in the next few days (if I don’t win a copy here ;)).
