The BEST Star Wars game and Project Cars lead February’s Xbox Games with Gold

Force Unleashed

Xbox’s Games With Gold program can be a mixed bag of delights from time to time. Most likely because taste can be subjective, but also because the games on offer are usually sometimes well past their expiry date. It’s a bit of a gamble each month, but this month is an absolute knockout. Because the love of month is being headlined by games that range from prequel sagas through to one of the finest simulators of horses under the hood in recent years.

Here’s the list from Xbox:

  • Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime – Available from February 1-28 on Xbox One
  • Project Cars Digital Edition – Available from February 16-March 15 on Xbox One
  • Monkey Island 2: Special Edition – Available from February 1-15 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One
  • Star Wars: The Force Unleashed – Available from February 16-28 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One

AW YISS SON. I know that Project Cars is the main event here, but dammit man I’m still a huge fan of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. A game which definitely doesn’t have a terrible sequel that was over within a number of hours that could be counted on one hand if it had been introduced to a woodchipper, Nope.

It’s one of the last great games that LucasArts managed to publish, a prequel with a story that was far superior to an entire trilogy of movies, years before Rogue One took an early trip to the Death Star. I played that game broken in pursuit in a of a black-bladed lightsaber, and I enjoyed every second of it. Fun fact: The actor behind the motion capture and voice of Vader’s secret Apprentice Starkiller (Sam Witwer), is also the voice of Darth Maul and Darth Sidious on Star Wars The Clone Wars and Rebels.

Small universe hey? Anyway, that’s a great line-up right there. Monkeys, cars and the Force. Good job this month Xbox.

  1. SW TFU is not the BEST Star Wars game but dayum son it definitely one of the best.

Don’t get me wrong, my love for TFU is massive. Protag was awesome, story was damn fine, and the gameplay was majestic.

NO other SW game had Force mechanics like this (maybe JK2 and JK3 came close)

Throwing Stormtroopers around like puppets was amazing

THIS is how you use the Force, not like a whittled down Padawan being able to pick up an apple in the movies and even the series.

That is one of my biggest gripes about the quite magnificent SW Clone Wars animation/CG. You don’t have actor limits, so show the world what the Force really is.

Like the one where Windu takes on a whole army by himself, that was epic!

Or show the world that you can bring a Star Destroyer out of orbit with the Force!

TFU? Was a bit platformy for me, but still a load of fun. BUT: I think it may be the best star Wars Game on Xbox 360 or Xbox One.

Some satisfaction to be had when pulling off combos and all.

Now, if someone made Knights of Old Republic over for Xbox One, for example, that would be different. Very different.

NOW: Project Cars is something I have looked at several times, but not wanted to buy. That looks interesting, ultimately may prove my not buying to right, but is free to play. And that, after all, is the point of Games for Gold – get it, try it, bin it, keep it. Matters not so much. The R169 a month is fair value for what I get.

I don’t think we played the same TFU… (fine, I admit it, I played the Wii version). I fond it short, very linear and pretty average to be honest.
Jedi Knight, Jedi Academy and of course KOTOR were much better games.

Great lineup for games with gold though.
