Bungie is making Destiny a little easier

Destiny dust palace screen 03 ps4 us 07jul14

Bungie can be proud of their relatively stable launch of Destiny, but these coming months are going to be a hard-fought battle for the house that built Halo.   These are the months where patches and continued support could determine if a player stays or not. The latest patch isn’t huge, but it’s changing a few things drastically.

Namely, the difficulty. Destiny can be a hard game to grind through alone, especially if you just expect story missions to keep you above the level cap. If you’re a bit more MMO educated, it’s fairly easy to stay ahead of the curve. Despite this, Bungie thinks a few missions are too tough, so they are being nerfed hard.

Three story missions have had their innards tweaked, with the Moon and Mars now being a little more forgiving. The 6-man, super difficult raid has also been changed a bit, but mainly to prevent unfair wipes during the week-long period you have to complete it.

The short and sweet patch notes can be found below:

  • Missions
    – Shrine of Oryx: Reduced difficulty by removing majors from Heroic tiers
    – Sword of Crota: Reduced difficulty by removing majors from Heroic tiers
    – Exclusion Zone: Reduced difficulty by removing majors from Heroic tiers
  • Raids
    – Dropping the relic at the end of the raid will no longer result in a team wipe. This will prevent players being stuck at a black screen after the raid.
    – You will remain dead if you were dead when the mission ended. That will be addressed by a future patch.

I’ve already wrapped up my Moon journey and didn’t once think that something was too tough to handle, even alone – so I’m not sure why Bungie is focusing on this when there are a few more pressing issues to fix. Like that cave that is essentially breaking the game’s loot system.

Yeah I didn’t think the missions were that difficult alone? I played a few missions on Hard difficulty and was comparable to Heroic in Halo games – maybe a tad bit tougher! But that is OK in my opinion.

There is one mission I sukkle with and it’s the weekly heroic, hella hard to solo.

But Sword of Crota, that has to be one of the easiest mssions in the game.

          I Lazy like a baws!

But seriously, the beginning part of that strike is hard, 3 waves of “Metric herds of baddies” with the last wave having 3 or 4 “Yellow” wizards, I fail so hard there…. guess it makes up for the easy-mode orge at the end.

Oh, and just after I was expressing my extreme jelly for your Exotic gun, I too got a golden bounty! Now I’m on the grind to get something exotic and hopefully useful, Woot!

To everyone still getting centipede errors (like me last night) I shut down my WIFI on my router and restarted it because two phones and two laptops where connected to the WIFI while my PS4 is connected via a LAN cable ensuring that it’s the only device in the house that has internet connectivity, which is still bullshit. I only got bee errors after that but my connection was fine till i went to bed at about 2 am.

Don’t you just love games that need a server to work. Don’t worry after a month or 2, there won’t be much server load anymore, then you can enjoy the game anytime your internet allows you to.

I’ll say this though, you get home and you think you are only going do a couple of bounties, maybe the daily mission. Then you can’t connect, then you struggle to get the game working and when it finally does work you’re so relieved that you end up playing it the whole night.

        DRM!

DRM rocks, I want it for all games and all games should be online all the time!

It takes the DRM and it rubs it on it’s body or it gets the hose!

I’m still fortunate to not have received any assortment of insect errors. But dunno if it’s just my line or what but I’ve had no issues.
Got to the end boss of the raid at 1:30 this morning. Tried a few times then called it quits at 2am. Going to do a fresh run again with the weekly reset. Should be a lot easier since we know what to do know. Loving the raid.

If you need a 6th or help, let me know. The raid is really awesome and a lot of fun. But people must just not get frustrated with each other. Some of the tactics can be a bit crazy and cause panic.

Will do thanks. Yeah I’ve been playing MMO’s for a while and it will take patience and teamwork end of the day it is the hardest part of the game so people need to deal with it:) Even if we get two bosses down or one I’ll be happy it’s progress.

the cave is only effective for so long. think about it there may be 6 people looting the cave on average and 50-100 in the map. not everyone wants to sit and fire endlessly at a cave, it just another aspect of the game for “grinders” to play.

It’s funny coz it’s true! 🙂 I was enjoying the grinding (to a degree) in Destiny. But now I sometimes feel like I’m being shafted. I mean playing Crucible PvP matches and seeing time-and-time-again the guys who got worse stats than you in the match get gear and you don’t… I mean come on!! Surely everyone should be rewarded, even if it’s with sub-par “I’m going to dismantle this anyway” gear? What are the ‘rules’ for the random drops? And then, when I finally do get a legendary armour piece… It’s for another class! Seriously?! I had NEVER, until that point, encountered gear that was restricted by class. And then the 1 legendary piece of armour I finally pick up is restricted?! I won’t lie, I was quite upset.

But I persevered and kept going last night – getting closer to the next light level. And hopefully have enough “Strange Coins” and “Motes of Light” to afford something nice from Xur on the weekend!

The amount of butthurt this game has generated (among the dirty unwashed masses) has been hilarious. It’s almost a boon in itself, and it brings a tear to my eye.

By the way, I actually like Destiny. It’s not the best game I’ve ever played, but it’s certainly not the worst. I also understand that content will be released as time goes on, and as a level 26 (almost 27) warlock with a mighty exotic pistol…. A LUTA CONTINUA!!!

So Lazygamer clan.. when are we taking on that Raid? The Banana is ready!

Why make it easier? I love having a challenge. There’s nothing in the story line that was hard to begin with. I purposefully went in under lvled to create more of a challenge. But what can you expect when a game attracts COD&HALO fans.

They only “lowered the difficulty” because these spots were really good for farming and for certain bounties.

On another note, I think they should add a “Solo” difficulty to Strikes and Raids. It would be easier than normal, no one would be able to join your fireteam (you can only do the “Solo” difficulty by yourself), but would still be the most difficult things in the game.

Then they should add fully detailed maps for all the planets that you can pull up with your ghost while your on the planet, patch in a UI for in-game Grimoire, explain certain things in Destiny better (like the enemy shields that get no explanation, etc.), and add an opt-in for text chat in the Tower (you could turn it on and off in the settings menu, and/or maybe it would only be seen when you pull up your ghost or in the “Options (PS4)” menu).

If they added all these things it would make matchmaking easier (you can find people in the tower easily with text chat), or you can solo the content (or just solo to get prepared before you play with others), maps… I would really like some maps. And why isn’t the Grimoire card stuff in-game again? Also the text chat could be blocked with Parental Controls. There everyone gets what they want.
