Busted Xbox 360 at Look & Listen

A kind hearted reader sent in the above picture to me of a not so healthy Xbox 360 at his local Look & Listen (Pavilion).

While it is nice to a see a local shop with decent gaming advertising it is hugely dissapointing to see them leave this poor Xbox all by itself in it’s time of need…

I like the fact that the sign states that you can only play for 10 minutes, I think I would have gotten bored of that screen long before then though.

For everyone who is about to go and google the error code

E65: DVD Drive Error…. DVD Timeout, Wrong firmware, dvd is without f/w chip, etc. This can also be caused by the tray not being fully closed on boot.

So the DVD drive is busted or jammed. Generally these errors are repaired simply by removing the disc, rebooting and putting the disc back in. Unless of course you modded the drive in which case you now have a pretty brick 🙂

Thanks to Tan for sending this in….

No they keep that very close to their chest. They say it’s the industry standard (3-5%) but not many people believe them. Sony are implying it’s over 10% which is also a bit high. Maybe 7%? Thumbsuck?

I fear the “favoritism” towards the Playstation has brought, a kind of neglect towards anything Xbox 360, without trying to be too “fanboi’st” it’s a little disheartening to see how far retailers will go to sell a PS3 over an XBOX360, errors like the one above are obviously fixable, but I fear most retailers will just say it’s broken and it takes an informed customer to approach them and say fix.

I don’t know sometimes it feels like the followers of XBOX are trying harder to sell the xbox360 than most retailers. While the PS3 is a powerful console, I don’t feel either console is far superior to the other.

All I have to say is when comparing the 12 million X360’s sold vs the 3 million PS3’s and the fault rates MS is still doing well in the market. Who know how many people actually abused their units and then cried wolf?

The PS3 aint untouchable neither. Mine got replaced within 1 week due to a faulty wireless in the unit.

I think the reasons most retailers are pushing the PS3 is
    a) It’s more expensive, therefore they paid more for the stock, and they’ll make more profit off it.
    b) As far as they know, this is the first ever xbox (since xbox1 never made it all the way to SA) and they believe the PS name will carry it.

Fact is, we have a very active Live community here in SA, and all we can do is keep telling people how awesome it is to play online with other South Africans …. they’ll come around to getting a 360 soon enough 🙂

Yes Aequitas the ps3 is more expensive but from my experience in retail its ster kinekor whos making the money not the retailer, markups on harware and software for ps3 i hear is around 20% now if you want to start making money youve got to look at atleast 45%, or so ive been taught. Anyway consumers are like lemmings (very easily led over the edge especialy if theve had a ps2 in the past.
