A few weeks ago leaks seemed to confirm that this year Call of Duty would be going back to its World War II roots, and Activision have now confirmed it. For their second entry into the series, Sledgehammer Games will be releasing Call of Duty: WWII later this year. A new website for the game has been revealed, with a full game reveal coming on April 26th.
The announcement comes months after Activision hinted that Call of Duty would be going “back to its roots” this year, following the slightly disappointing sales of Infinite Warfare last year (disappointing only to Activision, given that it was the best selling game of the year). A few weeks ago leaked promotional material seemingly confirmed the name and period change, with Eurogamer soon corroborating the leaks with their own sources.
Today, the official website for the game finally went live, confirming that World War II will indeed be returning after being absent since Call of Duty: World at War, developed by Treyarch. Sledgehammer Games is the third studio Activision have added to the Call of Duty stable, with their first game, Advanced Warfare, launching to critical and commercial success in 2014.
Although no new details for the game were revealed, we won’t have to wait long at all to find out just what this turning back of the clock means for the franchise going forward.
