Capcom’s decision to include a permanent save file in Resident Evil Mercenaries for the 3DS hasn’t gone down well at all, with many believing it’s the company’s way of stemming 2nd hand sales.

Capcom’s done it’s best to convince the public otherwise, and has now said it won;t happen again.

"Secondhand game sales were not a factor in this development decision," it said to Giantbomb, adding that gamers  "will be able to enjoy the entirety of the survival-action experiences that the game does offer.” "In Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, all mission progress is saved directly to the Nintendo 3DS cartridge, where it cannot be reset", it said, concluding that "The nature of the game invites high levels of replayability in order to improve mission scores. In addition, this feature does not remove any content available for users."

"I think it’s fair to say there was never quite the malicious intent that the conspiracy theorists out there would have you believe,” said Capcom US senior VP Christian Svensson in an interview with Capcom-Unity. "I think it’s also fair to say that in light of the controversy it’s generated, I don’t think you’re going to see something like this happening again," he concluded.

Hey, maybe they’re not trying to piss people off after all!
