Commander Shepard signs off in Mass Effect Andromeda teaser

Andromeda mako explorer

Mass Effect built a relationship between the player and the experience thanks to Commander Shepard. It was just so wonderful to return, game after game and see familiar faces and hear familiar voices. Of course, the trilogy is over now and it’s time for Bioware to get us attached to a new cast and galaxy, but not before saying goodbye and encouraging us to see what else is out there.

We knew N7 day wouldn’t bring much in the way of new information about Mass Effect Andromeda, but we did get this teaser trailer, voiced by Jennifer Hale, aka Fem-Shep:

I love hearing her voice, and I also love that they had her sign off – it feels more complete, like we’re ready to go exploring to see what else the universe has to offer. The new game is in a whole new galaxy, and I suppose it’s fitting to use this as our last look back on the beloved trilogy before turning our sights towards what the new game will offer.

Over on the Bioware blog, they are looking for explorers with some cool new posters. I was hoping this would mean that there were sign ups of some description, but it’s basically just an opportunity to opt into a mailing list. While that might make some people happy for now, I’m just going to watch the teaser again instead.

Andromeda explorers wanted

While we still know nothing about the new game, I’m so very excited. As much as I will miss my beloved Shepard and awesome crew, it’s nice to move on and explore new planets, meet new characters and forge a new destiny. I can’t wait to see more of Andromeda, although we’ll probably only hear from Bioware again next year. Bring on 2016 already!

Lol! I just never played as her. I’ve played through the whole series 2 and a bit times but I always play as male characters in RPG’s. That said, hearing her now, she probably did a much better job than male shep. His voice acting was pretty average.

Depends… If its in the same time line or not.. If its 100 to 1000 years after Operation London then I dont think so.

How do I know? Well Javik said to Liara some where in ME 3 that the last time he saw her species they were some kind of fish or something in the direction. So for all we know the Krogan could’ve evolved into something better, or worse?

Would you prefer the method implemented by ID who only show the select few a teaser and then give the rest of humanity the excuse, It will be done when it’s done ? It may not show much, Probably because they don’t have anything to show us ( except concept art ) , but at least they are including us into the fold by doing some marketing.

Isnt ME Andromeda supposed to be 1000 years in the future after ME 3? It better be! It would be so STUPID if they make this during the same time line or before the Reapers got destroyed or whatever BS RGB ending you choose..

Plus this was probably BW’s way of saying.. Guess what Indoctrination theory or whatever other theories were out there has been debunked! I’m smelling a Dragon Age: Inquisition IN SPACE kinda game now. Small cameos, if any.. And wont really be cannon.

I never really took on to the whole Fem Shep thing, but wow did she make me feel ready to go explore! I wonder why they used a shepard for the teaser trailer though? Wouldnt they use a new person/character to prepare us for the new adventure ahead? Something tells me we will see shepard somehow in this game! Maybe not as a playable character, but possibly integrated into the story as some go to person for information. Hmmmmmm… theories…. Anyone else has any?

It wasn’t really Sheppard in the trailer though.. Read other day on N4G the next ME protagonist is also human. Explaining the teaser of a human figure working the console. Other than that my Sheppard died shooting that brat in his time wasting mouth. So my Sheppard is dead for sure.

Yeah I also read somewhere that the protagonist will be human. I wouldnt think they would use another type of race since we would be able to relate easier to a human than another race. Im just surprised they used Fem Shep for the teaser trailer. Almost as if she will be either a main character again or be integrated into the game in some form. Like maybe an info hub.

Could be they only used Jennifer becuase she is like considered a god in among the ME community. I remember everybody always said they only play as Femshep back in the day when I used to go to the WB social forums.

I for one loathed Femshep in the original ME.. But as they sexed it up in the sequels I could start relate for obvious reasons.

I see what you mean. I dont know… if i hear her voice I think Fem shep. I dont think new protagonist if you know what i mean. Sure she might be considered a god in the ME community, but I could never really get into playing with a female character in a game like ME. Id play Tombraider sort of games as a female character, but John Sheppard was just the perfect character for the franchise. I didnt even do custom character for him cause i wanted to stick to how the overal game perceived him to look.

          • WitWolfy

            November 9, 2015 at 14:48

Exactly what I did. Kodus. glad to see us vanilla gamers still exist out there. Always found it weird seeing people play with a custom Shep when the box art shows what should look like to begin with.

          • CypherGate

            November 9, 2015 at 15:37

Yeah like id play it as originally intended. As for a reply Id try the custom character simply because I played as the original character through the first play through, but overall I still prefer the original characters of games (apart from some where the main protagonist just looks horrible)

Mass Effect had the best backstory in a game. The Reavers were the stuff of legends. Yeah, The endings did not deliver, But that was ” so last gen “. New series, new technology, sub surface scattering, higher poly counts, higher resolution textures and many other perks including the wisdom of past mistakes. This game is going to be epic.

I wonder what Andromeda is going to be based on because like you said the backstory of ME was near perfect. It interested me so much and the Reapers was an enemy to be reckoned with. I will happily pay R900 for a game like this. Simply because of the quality standard of this franchise as well as the story, playability, replay-ability as well. Not many games keeps me as hooked as the ME franchise and that alone is worth the price. I wouldn’t want to pay R900 for a game that I like, but wont have the interest factor like the ME franchise has for me. Hell they should really consider a huge ass budget movie for the franchise. A trilogy of some sorts. It would kick the living ass out of Star Wars (Im not a fan. I was when I was much younger) I think people are still hooked onto the whole Star Wars franchise because they dont want to lose that feeling of nostalgia mainly. Some will be purely there for its story, which I feel isnt as good as ME. Im sure people will blast me for saying such things, but it is what it is.

I cant help but feel Mass Effect was supposed to be much more than what we got in the end.. I’m not talking about botched endings and incoherent stories structures. I’m talking about the universe it self.

The richness and creativity that could give Star Wars or heck Starcraft a go. But after the events of ME 3 I hated how they doomed a whole galaxy, no matter what you did. Knowing that everything I grew to love and invested time in like reading about races and how things I came to love were all for nothing. As if it was all erased no matter what choice you made in ME3..

Blue.. You control the Reapers.. Relays explode! No one wins!
Green.. Force both synthetics and organics to become some weird hybrid of each other… Relays explode! No one wins!
Red.. Blow up Reapers.. Relays Explode! No one wins!

Makes it hard to actually return to try and defend a galaxy if these were your outcomes.

Yeah, They screwed it up in the end. But remember, A game will always be limited by the technology it’s running on and people have to develop the content. Therein lies the problem. Probably very expensive to realise the games true potential at the time.

I don’t know to be honest with you. I was still ok with the ending. I mean if you look at the overall battle they were facing. There was no real way to survive. Sure if the relays explode then travelling through space would be halted. They could have maybe changed one of the choices so that they can show how humans are set back technologically with one or two races and from there start rebuilding.

Just give it time. Eventually a Director will get a game film right and the floodgates will open. Mass Effect has a very good story. But you will always get the cynics who ill argue that it is a Star Wars rip off of some sort. I remember reading a article some years back and the reviewer said video games are all rip offs of the first Alien movie. Claustrophobic corridor shooters. I can see his point but it has now become irrelevant.

One could say that of many other forms of ideas. Sure it started with Aliens. The Claustrophobic environment etc, but that doesn’t necessarily make it better than everything else that came along. Ideas start somewhere and someone else gets inspired by that idea and simply could make that idea better. Thats just how I see it regardless of many who would compared everything to something that originally started it all. I just hope when that time comes it will be snatched up by Christopher Nolan! (Interstellar was totally brilliant)

Me too. After Exodus, Gods and Kings, I thought Mr Scott had lost his way a little. But it was dedicated to his brother, So I can’t hold that against him. There are only a handful of Directors that have delivered consistently throughout their careers. The most obvious one is Spielberg, Cameron is another and Ridley Scott is right up there. I grew up on their films.
