Dust II, which is arguably the most played and loved map in Counter-Strike’s history, is returning to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s beta testing after months offline.

Dust II was removed from Active Duty back in February pending some much-needed changes for competitive play. Dust II was initially replaced by the revamped Inferno map which was alsowas removed from competitive play to receive changes to the map. Dust II was still playable in its old form, but the sand riddled map was not available in competitive play and removed from tournaments around the world. Inferno’s changes were well received and it seems Dust II is creating a similar hype for the new overlook. Valve completed an entire overhaul of the new map including updated textures  with the aim of improving movement and visuals for players. The also added a new Terrorist look to add to the theme of the dusty feel.

The layout of the map has not changed, thankfully, with bombsites remaining in their old positions. competitively, this means we will still see the same famed duels between Counter-Terrorist and Terrorists on both bombsites and, of course, middle. While these places have remained in the same positions, they do look a bit different. Bombsite A looks more like a bazaar with some interesting new additions, along with Bombsite B looking a bit more like some kind of fortress – making it even harder to get into (we think). Tunnels (connecting mid and B) also got an overhaul with a seemingly open top. It’s unclear whether sky-boxes exist above these opening which can be used to throw flashbangs blinding enemies, but we will have to wait and see what the professional players bring to this new map.

If you’re interested in trying out the new Dust II you’ll need to opt into beta which takes you to a version of CS:GO which available in the public test realm, or PTR. We cannot wait for Dust II to re-enter Active Duty, but for now we can at least marvel at its new overlook.
