Debut Trailer – Split/Second – Burnout Better Watch Out

It looks like Criterion may have to sit up and pay attention, because there is a new kid in town and he looks like he wants to wreck the joint as much as possible.

This trailer for a new racing title called Split/Second shows off a little bit of a different way to look at racing games, in that the races have been completely setup for televised entertainment value. It’s kind of like Unreal Tournament mixed with Mario Kart and that seriously strange old movie that had Arnold Schwarzenegger in it ( I think it was called Running Man).

If that’s not an interesting combination then I don’t know what is. More after the jump.

The racers are not only testing their skills behind a wheel, but are also able to set off various traps around the tracks in the form of exploding gas stations, collapsing construction sites and setting off massive explosions.

From the looks of the trailer, this game could prove to be a whole lot of fun, let’s hope that the visuals also look as sweet as in the trailer, because that mixed with some fun gameplay and an interesting twist on racing means that we could just have something new to look forward to in future. And in case you were wondering, yes, that is a Disney logo at the end of the trailer, interesting.

Split/Second will be releasing on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC. The release date is not yet known.

Please don’t encourage him. He may just feel compelled to do it again.
