Dragon’s Dogma: Giant chickens and demos

cockatrice

When I last had some time with Capcom’s fantasy title Dragon’s Dogma, it was pretty awful; the controls were clunky and the enemy and partnered Pawn AI was terrible. It’s certainly come a long way since then – as this gameplay video of players fighting a cockatrice – a giant chicken – testifies. Dragon’s Dogma’s big hook is that it’ll allow you to grab hold of all manner of mythical beast, climbing atop them and using strategies to down them – something that would have made Skyrim’s dragon battles lot more visceral.

Check the video below to watch an RPG hero grab a giant cock with both hands.

Dragon’s dogma really looks like it’s shaping up quite nicely – and could be a sleeper action RPG hit. If you’re keen to try it out for yourself, there’s a demo for the game hitting Xbox live and the PSN next week (April 24 for Xbox gamers, April 25 for Euro PS3 pundits)

You’ll be able to try out two of the game’s classes – Fighter and Strider –  as well as play with pawns.

“A melee specialist skilled in both attacks and counterattacks, as the Fighter you will make your way through underground tunnels and chambers before taking on the deadly Chimera in a Prologue quest, set before the events of the main game.

“Swift and nimble, the Strider’s weapons of choice are bow and daggers, use them well if you are to defeat the mighty Griffin in the open plains surrounding the capital of Gransys.”

What’s quite cool is that you’ll be be able to export your character from the demo to the retail game when its released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in North America on May 22 and across Europe (and South Africa) on May 25. Buying the game also grants you early access to the Resident Evil 6 demo, if y’know, a kick-ass game wasn’t motivation enough.

“Let your imagination run wild and design both your playable character and main Pawn using the game’s incredibly in-depth character creation tools before you take on the Griffin; purchasers of Dragon’s Dogma will then be able to export both these characters into the full game on its release.”

After that video involving spectacularly feisty fowl and flame, is anyone else having KFC for dinner tonight?
