E3 2009: Forza 3 Runs At 1080p/60fps – Oh Wait, No It Doesn't, Does It?

There are currently two stories floating around the internet at the moment about Forza 3, and it seems like one of them is false.

It was reported that the newly announced Forza 3 is running at 1080p at a smooth 60 frames per second, but after a video that shows a quick interview with one of the developers, it seems that the story may not be entirely true.

So what’s the real deal with Forza 3?

Some dude from Xbox Evolved had a quick moment to speak with one of the guys at the Forza 3 stand, and so he asked what the native resolution of Forza 3 was, to which the guy replied, 720p.

What this means, is that the game will run at 1080p/60fps, but the resolution will be upscaled from 720p. In other words, not true 1080p. The truth is, the whole 720p/1080p argument is a little silly, because unless you are running a 50″ LCD TV or bigger, you shouldn’t really even notice the difference. It only comes down to the details, so for those of you interested in just that, it’s 720p native.

Either way, it’s looking gorgeous and running at 60fps, so nothing wrong there, but GT5 fans out there can breathe a sigh of relief, if necessary.

Here’s the proof:

Gears of War 2 is 720p that is unscaled and it looks amazing on my 46″ so I really don’t care whether its true HD or not… besides 60FPS with those visuals is no small feat.

Its been stated numberous times, that there is no clear difference between 720P and 1080P that the human eye can see… Or so i convince myself

I think there is a visible difference when going bigger than a 40″ especially if you have a good panel. Then 1080p is noticably better.

1080p looks better than 720p close-up. Not a lot better, but enough to make you smile when you scrutinise it 🙂

It depends alot on whether you have HD-ready eyesight 🙂

    1280
    x 720p resolution = 921,600 pixels

    1920
    x 1080p resolution = 2,073,600 pixels

Meaning that 1080p has 2.25 times the amount of pixels than 720p. There is a huge difference in image sharpness on “any” sized screen that contains a minimum of 1920 x 1080 physical pixels in its panel. It doesn’t need to be a 50inch in order to see the difference. If you game on a PC that is connected to a very small sized desk monitor that has a native resolution much higher than 1080p, you will see the obvious differences in image sharpness on the small screen as you experiment with the game’s resolution settings. A console game being “upscaled” from 720p to 1080p does not produce the same level of sharpness as a game that runs at 1080p natively. Anyway, Forza 3 still looks impressive.
