Earlier this year we reported on the news that E3 may be moving from its usual Los Angeles base due to the upcoming construction of Farmers Field which was going to result in the destruction of some of the LA convention centre.
Well my hopes of heading to New Orleans next year have now been dashed with the announcement that E3 will still be held in Los Angeles up until at least 2015 after the ESA and City of Los Angeles were able to work out the problems between them and a new contract was signed.
There were some rumours doing the rounds that one of the other reasons the ESA wanted to leave LA was due to the price gouging taking place near the centre during E3, something I witnessed first hand when we were there in 2010.
The day before the conference opened we drove to the centre to get our press passes and parked in the underground parking, parking which I knew wouldn’t be available on the day so we scouted around quickly and saw huge parking lots all over the place which charged $5 per day.
So without a care in the world we rocked up at the conference the next day only to be met with the same parking sign but overnight they had drawn a big 0 on a piece of paper and stuck it after the 5… meaning that overnight the price went up by 10x the standard amount.
You couldn’t blame them though as all the $50 parking was sold out.
