E74 Error Gets Extended Warranty

Who could ever forgot how Microsoft had to shoot themselves in the foot when they announced that they would be extending the warranty for the Red Rings of Death, Demise, Doom and a whole lot of other words starting with “D”.

So basically, as most of us know, the E74 is the new RROD. The good news is that Microsoft has decided to extend the warranty on consoles and in a very decent move, have offered to refund anyone who has paid to have their consoles repaired over the next 4 – 12 weeks.

Official statement after the jump.

“While the majority of Xbox 360 owners continue to have a great experience with their console, we are aware that a very small percentage of our customers have reported receiving an error that displays “E74″ on their screen. After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007.”

So more problems plague the Xbox 360, but at least Microsoft are being decent about it. Still, it’s about time that the Xbox 360 gets sorted out once and for all and I hope that Microsoft understand that their next console has better be a whole lot more stable than this or they are going to suffer.

  1. I wouldn’t be suprised if they just change the later x360’s to display an E74 instead of RRoD…
