EA Announces – EA Sports Freestyle

EA FreestyleI received a press release this morning from EA Games about their new department that is going to be developing more family friendly sports games called EA Freestyle.

According to EA

EA SPORTS Freestyle games, while based in sports, will be playful, inclusive, casual, and easy to pick up and play for kids and parents, women and men, and casual and hardcore sports fans of all ages.

When I first read that I didn’t really know what they were talking about but the more I thought about it the more it became clear what they are trying to achieve.

I love my FIFA 2008, I think it has finally surpassed PES in terms of gameplay while still keeping it’s graphical edge. Obviously this is debatable but that isn’t the point here. While I now think FIFA 2008 is fantastic a few of my non-gaming friends are struggling to enjoy it anymore as it has become to complicated.

So EA were stuck with the decision of either dropping the difficulty level to allow anyone to play or ignoring the larger casual market… However they have opted for the third route and created a more casual friendly division.

This is just purely my personal opinion though and nothing like this has been stated by EA Games.

The first title in this new stable is the already seen Facebreaker with 2 more titles being released in the next 12 months. I am looking forward to giving these a try as Facebreaker piqued my interest a while back.
