EA is shuttering EA Partners

In what I see as a blow to independent studios it has been revealed that EA Games are shuttering their EA Partners division which was created to enable independent studios to partner with EA and their marketing power to bring their games to a wider audience.

And no I’m not talking about weird indie games that are kinda cool, I’m talking about games like these which were all published via the EA Partners division.

  • Crysis
  • Crysis 2
  • Crysis 3
  • Syndicate
  • Brutal Legend
  • Bulletstorm
  • Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning
  • The Orange Box

EA haven’t revealed why they are canning this project, especially with two huge titles in the process of being released. Those being the new titles from Respawn Studios and Insomniac’s Fuse.

Apparently those titles will not be affected but until EA gives an official statement, expected on the 7th of May, everything is up for debate.

While not everyone loves the titles listed above, it’s hard to say they didn’t break new ground in their attempts and that is something that would be sorely missed if studios are forced back into their little boxes.

Wow, I only need Crysis3, KoA and Brutal Legend to complete the pack.

    What do I win? 😛

I’ve only played Syndicate on that list and only after it hit the bottom of the sale bin.

I wonder what the reasons are?

Is it that they are afraid of the competition they may inadvertently create by doing this?

I’m just about finished with it and I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the Pinger levels.

EDIT: Stupid disqus, this was supposed to be a reply to umar bastra regarding Crysis 2.

Valve developed the orange box they were just publishing through EA. The Orange box is just Half Life 2 with all its expansions in one bundle.
