Epic's Mark Rein backs Blu-ray

Mark Rein has been speaking to journalists about the upcoming PS3 timed exclusive, Unreal Tournament 3.

warned that “we may have fewer maps on the 360 version … Blu-ray has definitely given us a lot of legroom”.

This is definitely a blow for the Xbox 360, Microsoft have been saying since the beginning that they don’t see a need for a larger disc. However when an exec from the makers of your best game comes out and says he wants more space you need to listen.

While it is still acceptable to ship games on multiple discs I don’t think this will be a solution for this game. It’s not like you really want to be swapping discs during rounds.

I guess the 360 fanboys could just use the age old PS3 excuse and say it’s just lazy developers…

They have to drop the hdd-less model , no doubt , and soon , before more users buy it.

well there are rumours that some games will come with a “HDD Required” logo on it. I’m guessing that UT3 will be one of those.

can’t see that lasting when the limitations of DVD-9 start to really show. And UT3 is technically a MMO anyway 😛 (an MMORPG it’s not :))
