EU Console Sales Figures -15th March 2008

58 second read

So this is the last batch of sales figures before the price cut will be in effect… Well the price cut came into effect last week Friday but you know what I mean…

So how are things looking over in Europe for everyone at the moment? Well the Wii is still leading (only being outsold by the DS), the PS3 is around 20k units back and then again it’s another 20k units before we find the 360.

What is suprising however is that the PS2 is dead last this week, has that console finally started running out of steam? Only time will tell….

Hardware
Wii  – 92,100
PS3 – 71,295
360 – 51,324
PS2 – 39,832

What will hurt Microsoft however is that the PS3 outsold it in the UK as well, by a paltry 200 units but a win is a win.

In the Other category that we fall into though the 360 is miles ahead of the PS3 with sales of over double. Granted it’s total sales are only 14 000 but again a win is a win.

I don’t think the PS2 is dead. All it needs is a price cut and then watch it sell.

the 360 won in the US this week, I am busy typing that one up.

I don’t check the Japanese charts anymore as they are always the same. Wii –> PS3 ——————–> Xbox 360 😛

    Total sales of what?

If this is from launch day it is badly skewed since the Xbox has been around a lot longer than the PS3.

And the Wii is just not normal 😛

    Total sales of consoles.

@Messiah- “If this is from launch day it is badly skewed since the Xbox has been around a lot longer than the PS3.”
Strange you should mention that because the PS3 and 360 was announced at the same E3 and the Wii is innovative.

@Lazy- Is the PS3 being sold at a cheaper price in Europe than the Other region?

Of course it’s from launch. you can’t say the data is skewed. It’s not M$’s fault sony launched late. It’s not the gamers fault either.

People want to now what the numbers are NOW. Not what they would/could be.

Just by you saying the numbers are skewed implies you are a PS3 fanboy.

@JP so have a look at the sales NOW and not from ages ago and you will clearly see that the PS3 is overtaking the xbox.

@Evilredzombie- launch and announcement dates are related. When you announce a product, you give a launch date.

Say whatever foul words YOU want to… the PS3 was launched late… SONY knew that they had instability… It took them another 6 month’s to realize that Cell can’t push 3.2ghz per core so.

DON’T BLAME MS FOR GETTING IT RIGHT!!!

So do we adjust the PS2’s figures because it launched first ? Lifetime to date sales would appear to be a fairly straightforward term to grasp .

I think what banana hammock was looking for was the total sales for last month!
With all due respect fox/jp etc, Sony may have launched late but MS also rushed their product and hence why its hardware is so shyte!

Woah here is something interesting I just saw!
    Since launch for both cosoles:
XBOX = 5.76M Others (Includes Europe)
    PS3 = 4.61M Others
That means in an extra years sales xbox has only managed to sell a million more consoles!

@abe: where do you get your figures? Please explain what you are actually saying, cause its not making sense to me.

The way I understand it, according to VGChartz, is that if you were to launch both consoles on the same day, PS3 has sold 10.9m and xbox would have sold only 9.3m.

I got those figures from VGcharts.
They mean the following. From launch date of the xbox, MS have sold 5.76mil consoles in the other region, which is essentially everywhere but USA and Japan.
Since the launch of the PS3, i.e. one year after the xbox, sony has shifted 4.61mil in the same region.
In otherwords the entire lead of the xbox comes from USA alone, when you then think of the one year lead its sales figures are actually very weak!

Sheesh you guys are ALL bad, all i wanted to know was the sales figures for Japan from last week; as that is what Lazy left out because according to him: “they never change”, which i guess makes them totally irrelevant?

lol, I have to admit watching the two PS3 fanboys argue against each other about the figures is quite comical…

I also got a bit lost in all of that,

In a nutshell, The Wii has sold the most, then the 360 then the PS3.

We can now start breaking it down entirely to make the stats say what we want though.

I hope Lazy doesn’t have to put in measure like Xbox360Fanboy.com

Disclaimer: In no way do I agree with PS3Fanboys comments 😉 but you have to give the guy a chance for his calculations and comments.

BHW’s guide to statistical discussion for PS3 Fanboys.

    1) The Wii will not be considered in any discussion as it is not a proper gaming console. Yes you do plug it into your TV and engage in interactive electronic entertainment but under no circumstances will its existence be acknowledged.

    2) North America is not nearly as important a region in the global console market as Europe – it only accounts for 50 % of the total market.

    3) Finishing second in two territories and third in one equates to global domination.

    4) All current trends will be rendered meaningless with the launch of MGS4 – people will sell their firstborn offspring to buy a PS3 to play this game and it will break every sales record known to man.

@RandyChimp, Unfortunately Wikipedia can be edited by any old fanboy and therefore the sales figures cannot be trusted.

VGChartz’s numbers are constantly being checked against official sales and readjusted and at this time the PS3 has sold 11.04 million.
