Great news for all those gamers out there who can’t wait to see the first gameplay footage of Gears of War 2. You will be happy to hear that Gametrailers.com has secured themselves an exclusive video.
The footage is set to be aired at 1AM on May the 9th. While we are not sure which timezone they are speaking of, we should have it available to us around about the time we all get to work. So far, we have been told that the video will have Marcus Phoenix in it as well as an introduction by Cliffy B, the games lead designer.

ah man!!! I never thought I’d be so excited to see a video of a game that’s only due out the end of the year!!!
and then I’ll probably get all excited because of it and will have trouble sleeping until it comes out

I realize that they want to get it out before Xmas, and that is why I’m skeptical as to the quality they will deliver.
I would much rather wait until 2009 for an awesome follow up to GeOW, than go ho-hum, a few more weapons and a cleaner HUD.

Well… GOW (As in the first Gears) was very rushed. Watch the making of it… that game was pushed out a lot earlier than it was supposed to be. But I have faith in Cliffy B… he’ll deliver.. GOW wasn’t disapointing.

The big challenge is goign to be nailing a perfect single player and co-op campaign because there are so many Gears imitators out there now: Dark Sector, Army of Two, to some extent Uncharted. Unless they lift the bar for the campaign it’s not going to seem so special this time around.
Multiplayer just needs some tweaks but I’ll play it unless they manage to break it completely, because it’s such a well-balanced and fun game. Just hope they fix host advantage and lag issues this time around.

Cleaner HUD? Gears has no Hud except the occasional ammo meter.
As far as rushed, 2 years is plenty. They’ve already got a lot of the assets, the engine is being refined and tested by dozens of 3rd party users, it’s a trilogy so the story was completed before Gears 1 shipped. Think about RSV and GRAW that shipped “better than original” sequels within about a year!
All Gears 2 needs to do is fix the beta-esque glitches of 1 and it’ll be stellar. The information already released has already exceeded my initial expectations.
