Games for Windows - Multiplayer Becomes Free
Microsoft announced on Tuesday that the multiplayer features for Games for Windows Live are now going to be free. Not only that, but they will be adding a new GFW marketplace near the end of they year that will rival the marketplace found on Xbox Live. The features that have been made free include: multiplayer achievements, matchmaking, cross-platform play with the Xbox 360, GFW voice chat, and more. All of these features were previously charged for. This seems like a desperate attempt to breath some life into its GFW Live service after its miserable reception. What did they expect when they made features like this on the PC require a paid subscription when PC gamers have been enjoying free online gaming since the internet was made available and accessible. Not to mention that they are being trashed by Valve's Steam service, which allows many of the same features and some that it doesn't, but for nothing at all.
