Gears of War 2: IGN interview with Mike Capps
An IGN interview with Mike Capps, president of Epic Games this week talks about not only Gears of War 2, but his outlook on the industry as well as a the Gears of War comic! When asked by IGN, Capps goes on to discuss a few regrets that he had with the first Gears of War: "Oh wow. Well you know I think there's… everything we did was a series of compromises, right? Some compromises we wish we didn't have to make and those we did. I think the thing that was most painful to me as someone who cares a lot about the story and the continuity with the novels and the comic books and the movie and everything else. We did the first level at E3 and locked down the dialogue for that first level way before the whole game was done. So there's a whole lot of… you know, the game starts out, I don't know if you remember, but it says, "Hoffman pardoned everybody." And then right after there's a line that's, "Hoffman's gonna be pissed." And it doesn't make any sense at all and that's because it doesn't make any sense. And then trying to match everything around that is tough because, you know, the first bit of our game was a little inconsistent and that's frustrating. It's canon. That's the storyline and now we have to match it to that. But, you know, I'm pretty happy with it otherwise." It's an interesting interview, not only discussing Gears of War, but also what games he is looking forward too, why he thinks the Wii is evil and even a short discussion on Unreal Tournament III.
