Gears of War 2 Preview

So the major discussions happening in the Gears fanclubs are all centered around the multi player segment of the upcoming game… will it be amazingly addictive, and buggy, like the first one or are they going to ruin it and make it a run and gun..

Well the first solid details are out and so far it is sounding pretty awesome.. There are some aspects that don’t sound so great but some of the new gameplay options are really interesting……

Easily my most anticipated gameplay style is ‘Wingman’, where 5 team of 2 get to battle it out against each other. This is going to be an awesome way to play against unknown entities where all you need is one friend and your A for away..

It is going to include a Halo style matchmaking system which will hopefully give us more local games than before but don’t hold your breath.

The meat shield system sound fantastic and they have even made a gameplay type around it. You need to capture the AI controlled piece of meat (Grunt), then down him and put him in the meat shield position. You then need to get him back to your base before the other team kills you or shoots him enough to make him go ballistic… It could be awesome or it could be awful… only time will tell.

Other cool pieces of information include customised finishing moves depending on the weapon, one of which is a flame thrower. Grenades that can stick to walls, no mention of being able to tag team mates yet… and also movable bullet shields..

There will be no COD4 ranking system and the game is about 65% done….

So who’s excited????

    I hope they fix the way the netcode works. In gears it is absolutely impossible to be competetive on international servers while on COD4, the netcode makes it possible to still fire your gun accurately while having lag. In gears, if someone runs infront of me from left to right and I open fire and keep the cursor on him, the bullets go behind him.

    ‘Bad’ netcode is part of Unreal 3 engine.

    This will be same.

    U3 engine wants to run on dedicated server, not ideal for P2P.
