The Rockstar Pass gave L.A Noire players a pretty sizeable discount on future DLC, allowing users to pay half price for extra content – provided they paid for it all in one shot, before the DLC was released. Mortal Kombat offered the same sort of thing with its Season Pass, allowing you to pre-order all four DLC characters at a saving of 25%.
I’m still not entirely convinced about pre-ordering digital content like this; it’s possible that companies could, after taking your money, release poor DLC that isn’t worth the disc it doesn’t come on. That said, Gears of War 3 is the latest game to pre-sell its downloadable content.
For just 2400 MS Point (the equivalent of $30, or R250) you can get the next 4 bits of downloadable content for Gears of War 3 – giving you a saving of 33% off buying each individually. At least one of them is to be single player, campaign DLC – with the rest more than likely being map packs. The first DLC will be available in November, just two months after the game hits shelves. If you’re a devoted Gears-head, then this is really a no-brainer.
I’m not sold. I love gears, but Gears of War 2’s multiplayer just didn’t feel right for me; having abandoned that game’s multiplayer, the money I spent on post-release map packs ended up going to waste. What about you? Are you Gears of War adherents jumping on this?
