Grand Theft Auto IV – Website Open

It’s only 2 months and 18 days until GTA IV hits our shelves and so far it is all looking good for a day and date release with the rest of the world.

If you feel like memorising the huge map already you can head on over to the official website at http://www.rockstargames.com/IV which includes teaser videos, screenshots and some more of the back story.

Megarom has sent out another press release this morning confirming that the 360 version will hit our shelves on the 29th of April and the last time I spoke to SterKinekor they had also confirmed that release date.

However it isn’t all good news, the game is going to be retailing for R699 locally which is quite a scary figure. The reason for this is that Rockstar has apparently put a premium price on the game and the recent slide in the Rand has also knocked the importers quite hard.

I am completely convinced that GTA is worth R699 but I am a bit wary that we are going to start seeing this price tag more often which would be a real shame.

R700 for a game is unacceptable.

Boycott GTA IV…. I am not sure how many people are willing to do that ;)… Which I think is part of the reason Rockstar have attached a premium price..

I am NOT going to spend R700 on a game. That is just crazy.

    Bah, I’ll just import it.

All the e-tailers have the game at the usual retail price. Is it just South Africans who are getting ripped off again, or is the local distie spinning a story?

Where? On Amazon.co.uk, it costs the same as all other PS3 and 360 games (40 squids).

    Same on Gamestop and Amazon.com.
