Mark my words, the latest fad in this gaming generation won’t just be to re-release older games onto new systems, but to actually spruce them up. We’ve already seen Tomb Raider get a definitive makeover. And honestly, I’d love to see Half-Life get a visual upgrade along these lines.
Polycount user Logithx (via Dual Shockers) knocked out the following recreation of City 17 and it’s opening train station level, using the Unreal Development Kit. But Logithx isn’t done yet. The modeller wants to port the stage over to the Unreal Engine 4, which will most likely add all new levels of details. Click to embiggen, and see for yourself:
Seeing as Half-Life Episode 3 or Half-Life 3 will never ever be made, this just might be the next best thing. I’m keen to see the finished project on this upgraded retro tour.

I want the same done with the original Half-Life. I know there are people doing this independently but that has been taking ages and I want a PS 4 version of Half-life dammit!

Have you played Black Mesa? Redone HL1, free to download (just need a source sdk game installed)
So damn good!

I have basic Java skills and some low level LUA scripting experience. I prefer to play games than to make them. Also I am Lazy and that’s why I prefer Lazy Gamer for my gaming news*

Well your first problem is playing a FPS without a keyboard and mouse.
Your second problem seems to be that you never played for longer than 15 minutes.
I’d highly recommend getting to Ravenholm.
It’s one of my favourite parts of HL2.
Kromas
April 3, 2014 at 15:26
Screw Ravenholm. The best part is meeting your first ever Vortagon (thats not actively trying to shoot you) and going “Oh Crap!” while wasting all your ammo on an ally npc. 😛

Look , I rented the game along with a few others , I ve known for a long time that it’s a must play game , I still remember in the first half life when u in that chamber and shit goes pear
2nd , obviously a keyboard and mouse would of been better , but I was still a young lad back then
3rd , I ve just joined the master race , still sortin out random pc crashes ( fuck u windows 8.1) and software ( I video edit for a living and prior to pc was using a Mac so learning a lot ) so far I ve found pc gaming to be ok , but lack of support for older games ( looking at you AC 1 – no controller support no uplay support )
Funny enough I picked up AC 3 today for 50 bucks , been waiting to play this game for long , but generally I don’t pay more than 400 for a game , unless it’s going to be gta v on pc …

HL came at a time when good story meant “Demons came. Let get ’em. ‘MERICA!” Bioshock 1 unfortunately came in later and was not nearly as good as System Shock and also had a lot of contenders..

Half-Life was an incredible, well-written, well-made experience. Having the military after you and having to outwit and outgun them on harder difficulty was unmatched. The environmental audio and original approach to giving weapons two different firing modes made it feel totally different to anything that had been made at that time – 1998!
HL2 was a tech upgrade with clever physics, water shaders and facial animation. Beyond that it really was mostly just a long tech demo. It scored so highly everywhere and everyone that loved HL bought it without any hesitation. One problem though: it was boring.
I tried to play it again about 4 months ago. There’s no more tension; just finicky controls that lead to frustration, and 10-year old graphics.

HL1 – awesome.
HL2 – MEH in my opinion. It just doesn’t grab me and feels like an overhyped product that is so underwhelming it destroys what fun there might have been.

I honeslty don’t think they need to make HL2 prettier.
Recently played it again, and maxed out, it’s STILL quite beautiful, (the Aesthetics help a lot to overcome the graphical fidelity) I will say that some of the animations and physics could be updated… The Character animations and Ragdolling were wonly.

Only if I can look at it in the Oculus Rift, which vanilla Hl2 does allow currently 😀
