Heavy Rain delayed to give it a better chance

It’s no secret that the pre-Christmas lineup can often squash slightly unusual games as the moms, dads and better halves in the world will simply just pickup whatever has the most marketing space come shopping time and no retailer in their right mind would hide MW2 or Assassin’s Creed 2 on the lower shelves while sticking Heavy Rain all over the store.

Armed with this knowledge the developers of Quantic Dream decided to shift the release date until early next year to give the game the space it requires.

In their own words

“A game like Heavy Rain needs space, needs to be explained and shown. At the end of the year, people can’t afford to buy all those games so we wanted to give Heavy Rain the chance to have its own release window, and for us to really talk about it so people really understand it”

followed by

“If Heavy Rain doesn’t succeed it’s going to have important implications for other developers and for ourselves – maybe people will think ‘those innovative games don’t work, games cannot really convey realistic emotions.’ And they will continue to do the standard shooters and the like that we have been doing for however many years”

Unfortunately for Quantic Dream every other developer has had the same thought and now Q1 of 2010 is completely jammed up with AAA titles, which means we are going to see yet another delay for Heavy Rain now.

It hasn’t been announced yet but don’t be surprised when we hear that Heavy Rain is now pushed back to July / August 2010.

i reckon mid 2010 would be a good target for them to aim for. i must admit i am thankful that some games are being delayed, otherwise i just wouldn’t have time to play them all.

too much of a good thing can be a bad 😉

I do find it very funny that so many games have been delayed that the traffic jam moved from end of 2009 to beginning 2010

I for one am ecstatic about the delay. It gives me more time to get a bloody PS3!
