Heavy Rain will only be 8-10 hours long

The developers of Heavy Rain have been chatting to Videogamer.com about their title and the possibility of truly extending the game with DLC. Possibly using DLC to play through a prequel of a characters life, or a sequel to see what happens to the character after the game is completed.

The idea is nice and if priced appropriately I could see a lot of value in that.

However one other thing that came up in the interview is that the game will only be 8-10 hours long and seeing as the game has no multiplayer it is hard to envisage it having the best pair of legs after the first play through.

So is 8-10 hours worth full retail price?

I would have to say it really depends, COD4 was only about 8 hours long but the multiplayer easily pushed it into full retail territory. If it was just a single player game then I am not sure it would have been worth it.

Shadow Complex on the XBLA takes around 10 hours to complete and that is only about R150, but then again it’s a far simpler experience than Heavy Rain is promising to be.

Heavy Rain appears to me to be a completely immersive story/movie and as such I don’t think we would want it to be to long else it may start to lose that immersion feeling.

I would say 8-10 hours is perfect if it’s good and intriguing. But if they don’t pull it off expect the short gameplay time to be blasted all over the Internet.

In other Heavy Rain related news it sounds like the developers are trying to include some interactive love scenes powered by QTE’s. Sony however is trying to convince them that this isn’t a good idea as it will push their rating over the 18+ mark worldwide which would get the game pulled from most standard retailers and those countries with archaic censorship laws.

I on the other hand would love to see them include it and to see the reaction of the general gamer to this new experience.

I don’t understand the fixation with online multiplayer this gen. People act like it’s the only thing that matters. 8-10 hours is perfectly reasonable, especially if you take into account all the branching paths you can take in this game. There’s also been talk about prequals and sequals being released as DLC on PSN. Hope it doesn’t get censored. Fahrenheit had QTE sex scenes as well. I’ll admit it was a bit uncomfortable to play through. I kept glancing over my shoulder, praying that nobody walks in..

i’m not entirely sure thats a good idea, seems like it would be gratuitous. but i’m sure most people here would disagree

8-10 Hour awesome experiance over a 30+ hour snorefest game like farcry2 any day imho.
If its good enough its fine, like uncharted and Heavenly Sword for example.

Game is look good so far.

R600 for a 8 hour movie with some QTE to remind you that it’s a game not a movie. Not bad.

Why bother commenting if you’re not interested in the game?

    Doesn’t a comment equal interest?

Actually less, You buy and play for R75 hour.
and sell it the first week, and get R45 back.

    so only R30 hour.

you of all people know that some comments are only to bait a response from hapless fanboys.

suppose that shows interest, but its not exactly productive.

If anyone bothered to actually read a preview of the game then they would know that the game can take mutiple storyline paths and all the characters, I think 4 or 5 of them, you can play as can die in the game if you make the wrong decision. Therefore the game could end in 3 hours if you suck or 8 to 10 hours depending on other decisions. Also if say you let 1 of the 5 characters die you might miss out on important plot points that character might have interacted in or affected. So the game will have mutiple story threads the more times you play it. Im not talking stupid Fallout good vs bad decisions either. There is also a lot more to the game than QTE’s like investigation and stealth. The QTE’s are also said to be decision based.

I’ve read plenty of previews. That’s why I get so mad when people dismiss this game as being an interactive cutscene. There’s plenty of footage on the net that prove otherwise. Check out this video. It features a QTE that actually gives you some choices on how to proceed. It’s a bonus scene. So it won’t be part of the main game, but it will be on the game disc.

I believe multiplayer gets so popular because games don’t price equally all around the world. While a game costs what? US$ 60 on the USA, it costs 5x that in Brazil for example, and R$300 for a game which only lasts 8 hours isn’t really reasonable in a country where the salary base stands at R$450, however, CoD might cost around that but I have friends here with more than 700 hours of CoD4 online o_o
