How long is Far Cry 4?

far cry 4

Far Cry 4 is looking like it’s going to be pretty explosive. You’ve got unnecessarily violent wildlife, an off-his-rocker villain and a brand new environment to go completely obsessive over. But what about sticking to the marked path? How long will Far Cry 4 actually last?

According to Creative Director Alex Hutchinson, we’re all going to get lost in Kyrat for a very, very long time. Responding to a fan on Twitter, Hutchinson threw out a ball park figure on how long players can expect to be playing Far Cry 4.

I’m pretty sure that doesn’t just include the main campaign missions, but it also sounds like a little less than I’d expect for full, 100% completion. If you’re like me and like to do a fair share of side stuff while taking the story at a bit of a slower pace, than I think that estimate is pretty much spot on for us. Which makes me vey happy.

Hutchinson also revealed that the game’s competitive multiplayer mode will be revealed soon, along with the locked down specifications for the game on every platform. Here’s to hoping Ubisoft doesn’t try and go the same route that Unity did last week. They can only handle so many PR mistakes at a time.

Far Cry 4 launches next month on basically every home console except the Wii U. Instead, you get Bayonetta 2.

  1. I’m always interested to know the square kilometer or mile size of an open world game’s map, but it’s always so difficult to find. Skyrim is easy, because everyone raves about it, but things like Witcher 2 I just can’t find info on.

Bethesda is the only one to my knowledge who punts world map size.

Rockstar also released GTA V’s map size, as far as I know (I could be wrong). But it’s handy and I love to get an idea of what to expected. It’s not that the size of the map will change whether I buy it or not (that depends on the gameplay), but it’s nice to know.

          Apparently, it’s 1.37sq km.

          …apparently.

I feel it makes a little bit of a difference in my purchase choice. An open world with lots of running space is more likely to get my cash than one I don’t know the size of

I see your point. Okay, with fantasy and games like GTA it will probably make a difference to me. They said the map of Shadow of Mordor is big, but it’s quite tiny, even though there are two, but in that case it doesn’t matter because I wasn’t expecting a Skyrim rival.
For something like Witcher it probably will influence me knowing that it’s big. (I know the map of Wild Hunt is immense)

Witcher 2 has three different maps, so it is not open world. And each one is about medium sized. Just perfect to be able to explore everything without getting lost.

      according to this article: http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/04/03/the-witcher-3-two-of-the-areas-are-over-52-square-miles-by-themselves-3-5-times-larger-than-skyrim/

Wircher 3 = 136 sqkm , Witcher 2 was 3.9 sqkm (using backward maths) Skyrim obviously was 38 sqkm.

Of course, Just Cause 2 was 923 sqkm….

Just Cause 2 was massive, luckily you could phone for a jet plane.
*Edit, are we ever getting a third Just Cause?

I think so, if I remember right they’re the devs doing Mad Max, and might be working on JC3 next.

If I’m not remembering right, that’s how rumours start.

I tried Just Cause 2. I tried really hard, but I didn’t enjoy it all that much. (I know, I’m the only one).
It’s not a bad game, don’t get me wrong, it just didn’t grab me.

Will have to give it a go again. That first section on the roof of the car was so damn tedious. But it felt like there was more to the game that I just didn’t get.

Around 35 hours is rather decent. I mean, 100+ hours is cool and all (here’s looking at you, Witcher 3), but sometimes a shorter(ish) game with fair amount of exploration is okay, too.

So by the you finish Far Cry 4 and all of it’s side content and you won’t even be half way through playing The Witcher 3. Still 65 hours to go.

No, by the time you finish Far Cry 4 you will have just enough time to get in a nights rest and prepare the survival gear before playing The Witcher 3 (this includes the assumption that you’ve been working overtime to get extra days off for The Witcher 3).

Farcry 3 took me about 35 hours to do all missions and collect all the things, but i took my time in places. so 35 hours for 4 sounds fine, especially since they said it was rougly the same size as FC3…

I dragged out FC3 as long as I could. But I tend to do that with all open world games.

Some games i tend to blast through, it depends on the game really, Skyrim for example. was close to 100 hours (though i was playing offline, so steam didn’t count the time) but portal (1) I’ve gotten my campaign run to like 88 minutes (beginning to end)

I’m on my third Skyrim playthrough, sitting on 330 hrs now and have only once killed Alduin. So I really drag it out sometimes.
