Do you know who Mark Cerny is? Well you should. Mark is the brains behind the PlayStation 4 but more interestingly Mark doesn’t work for Sony, he’s just contracted in.
This is the first time this has ever happened and is an amazing event when you think about how much secrecy is around the development of new consoles. What makes it even better is that since Mark is a contractor he doesn’t need to attend all those stupid corporate meetings, or worry about shareholders, or internal politics.
In fact he doesn’t have to worry about anything other than creating the very best gaming console on the planet and then answering to the millions of gamers out there if he gets it wrong.. so yeah no pressure.
And this is why the software developers and partners are all raving about how the PlayStation 4 has been built because Mark Cerny is a veteran software developer.Working on hit titles like California Games, Sony the Hedgehog 2, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Resistance 2, Killzone 3 and is currently directing Knack.
In this video Mark explains how it all came about while frankly explaining how the PS3 got it so wrong in the beginning.
I wonder if Microsoft is watching this and wondering how much they need to throw at Mark to get him to fill the hole that Mattrick left?

I watched this yesterday. Quite interesting I must say. M$ will have to throw in the big bucks for his services. Seeing when they started working on PS4, I wouldnt be surprised if development on PS5 will start soon….

Ja, I enjoyed FFXIII, it was alright. One of the better RPGs I’ve played, not one of the best FF’s though. FFXIII-2’s time traveling and paradox endings were kewl, but it was kinda shallow and I didn’t like Serah (nor Snow) being shoved down my throat. The final piece of FFXIII-2 DLC was the best part of the game, playing as Lightning, with the paradigm switching combat really coming into its own. I have high hopes for Lightning Returns, mostly because it’s a conclusion, and a prelusion to greater things to come.

To sum up:
1) The PS3 sucked because Sony went after numbers instead of hardware that complimented the software.
2) Because of the PS3’s suckiness, Mark went out and bought the best OTS hardware. Chasing numbers again.
3) The Cell Engine sucked.
4) The PS3 sucked.
5) Yes, I’m trolling.
6) Sony PR trolled you with the uber PS3 mumbo jumbo.

I gotta say, between Mark Cerny and Shuhei Yoshida, they are both passionate people. I follow Yoshida-san on twitter, and he’s such a Sony fanboy, lol. He told off Polygon’s writer for giving TLoU a 7.5. Even outside of the three musketeers, Jack Tretton and Kaz Hirai are marvelous CEOs with great presence and humility.

Urgh, Bethesda. There’s a higher chance of Activision going under than Bethesda releasing a game without it being riddled with glitches and bugs.

As inspiring as it is to watch this guy talk sense, I don’t think it’s wise to publicly point out where you went wrong with hardware that is currently on the market.

Naa it’s at the end of it’s cycle so I think they at that point where they can talk about past mistakes

I think it’s probably far far more intelligent to come across as humble, as well as being able to point out exactly where you went wrong and how you plan on fixing it moving forward. The old arrogant Sony would’ve said they did everything perfectly, and nothing to see here. Sony had a serious image issue at the beginning of last cycle, and as far as we stand now, it appears they’ve won back a great deal of that support that they lost.
Also, it helps when that machine is currently leading it’s major competitor in WW sales, to be able to critique mistakes made.
