David Braben of Frontier Developments has come out and said that while Bioshock and Halo 3 are nice, they are not true next generation games.
He immediately goes on to say how his new game “The Outsider” is going to be a true next gen game. According to Wiki
The player controls a CIA operative named Jameson, who can use various combat styles and weapons. The game’s opening sequence depicts the character wrongly becoming public enemy number one in the eyes of the media and the public, and leaves the player to decide how to continue
Well for originality he gets a 2/10 but the idea of completely controlling all aspects of your player and with the enemies actually having simulated motivation and personal desires, it does sound interesting.
I never think it’s a good idea to insult other people’s work, especially when the other people have sold millions of copies. I wonder why he left Gears of War out of that list?

Mmm. Oh, well. At least he sticks to his guns. And who knows, maybe Halo 3 and Bioshock ‘aren’t’ that next gen. Don’t get me wrong, I f*cken loved both and they are both stellar games, but he is right about his assertion that gameplay hasn’t changed that much…oh wait, the Wii, what…does that make those games next gen 😀 ?
