Huge Xbox 360 Price Drop On The Way

According to reports going around the internet this weekend, the Xbox 360 may see a huge price drop yet again.

How big? Retail store HMV currently has the Xbox 360 Elite listed at £165 (R2,800) and the 60GB Pro at £166.37 (R2,376). There is currently no indication that these price drops will affect South African prices so stay tuned for confirmations and/or denials in the next couple of days.

According to the post on VG247, Retailer Play still has the Elite listed for £219 (R3,150) so this with the little information we have at present, this really could go either way. Why would Microsoft drop the price of the Xbox 360 yet again?

With the Xbox 360 sitting at a lower price than the Wii and the Playstation 3, it really begs the question as to why Microsoft would feel the need to drop the price one more time. Is it possible that the Playstation 3’s strong 2009 line-up is getting Microsoft a little worried?

French website GameKyo says that anyone who buys a console between February 27 and March 31st will receive a refund of around 40 – 50 Euros depending on the bundle that they purchase.

Let’s really hope that this drop makes it’s way down to sunny South Africa.

  1. I doubt it. Even if there was a price cut i think MI digital/Megarom will probably screw us over anyways

I am pretty sure Megarom would be very upset about being tarred with this brush.

Megarom distribute software on all 4 platforms and have no say in the cost of the actual hardware… I presume you meant Microsoft?

Damn too late for me, had to fork over R3600 for my new Pro after my place was robbed. Hopefully the price drop will affect peripherals too.

With MID constantly sticking their hand in the cookie jar,I highly doubt we’ll see any changes here. They’ll most likely throw out some excuse like this price drop wont affect smaller countries like SA.

Just like when we got our super duper screw you up the asshole :pinch: increase.

    MID Price HAX FTW. :pouty:
