It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no, it’s Indie Zoe swooping in with some AMAZE-ing indie news for you. Now let’s all ignore the fact that it’s a day late and revel in the AMAZE news.
In case you haven’t realized yet, it’s one of our biggest local indie events soon – the AMAZE festival. It starts next week Wednesday which is why I’m telling you about it now so no one can complain about missing out. You can grab the schedule over here which tells you about all the cool events, panels and games you can check out.
If you scroll down the oh-so-prime spot of Friday night at 9pm, you’ll see my name in lights. That’s right, I’m chairing a panel on indies and the media, something that feels a bit more topical considering recent revelations in the lead up to #GamerGate, but what can you do? It’s mainly there for aspiring game developers, or those who already do game dev, to understand how to interact with the press to get more exposure and not be seen as pure indie hipster twaddle. My panel members are our very own wookiee friend, Garth Holden, as well as Free Lives’ Shaz Greenwood and indie god Rami Ismail.
As far as I know, all panels and talks will be filmed for future teasing purposes, so don’t worry, you can see all my AMAZE-ing panel chairing at some point in the future.
In other indie news, Ferguson has inspired a game about journalism. It sounds quite cool – depending on how you frame a situation, it can change the perceptions and story:
Take cop-friendly photos, and the cops could be more friendly towards you, and let you have access to areas you wouldn’t have otherwise. Or take extremist photos, and you will personally turn a peaceful protest into an all-out violent conflict.
It’s inspired by Papers, Please and sounds like it could be pretty cool; I’d certainly like to give it a whirl.

Good luck Zoe, hopefully you don’t need it. : P
That journalism game sounds quite interesting.
