Infinity Ward drops the Call of Duty name?

So the big news coming out of GDC at the moment is the release of the above teaser trailer for Modern Warfare 2…

But there is something missing here, firstly we have no mention of the Call of Duty franchise anywhere in the trailer, nor is it referenced on GameTrailers who had it lined up to go live at the time of the announcement.

There is also no reference (apart from in the legals) of the COD franchise on the official teaser site www.modernwarfare2.com

I have thought for a while now that the name Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 was pretty stupid but I never would have guessed that they would drop the COD part of it. However if you think about it it actually makes a lot of sense.

COD4 was so successful in its own right that this sequel is highly anticipated and will be purchased even without the COD brand behind it… what better way could there be of starting your own IP all of it’s own?

I have asked Infinity Ward for a comment and will let you know if something comes from it.

Oh I nearly forgot, the release date for MW2 is 11.10.09 you see what they did there?

For anyone unsure what date that refers to it’s the 11th 10th of November 2009

which is remembrance day, or veterans day.
seems like a very appropriate date, but surprised it hasn’t been used before.

  • How can 11.10.09 be the 11th of the 11th month?

Typically, the US short-date format is mm/dd/yy, so I would guess this is the 10th of November 2009.

  • doh

That is the south African release date – always a day or few late.
