The battle for that weekend in July is growing stronger as Rush has just answered to VS Gaming’s R1.5 million FIFA tournament with a tournament of their own featuring none other than South Africa football team Kaizer Chiefs.
What is that weekend? Well it’s the 21st to 23rd of July where the Rush Expo is taking place and so is the VS Gaming FIFA 17 festival on the same weekend. Rush will feature an ESWC Qualifier for CS:GO, Orena’s Fight Night and the HP Omen League of Legends Challenge.
“Kaizer Chiefs is a football club but our aim has always been to grow the business beyond just the football field by introducing and building the brand within new markets,” says Jessica Motaung, Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director. “The growth of esports has been phenomenal over the last few years and we always believe in being at the forefront of what is happening in the world.”
The FIFA 17 Challenge at Rush will see the winner receive R20,000 cash and a Razer Raiju controller. Second place will receive a Razer headset and Kaizer Chiefs hamper. The tournament will be in conjunction with the African Cyber Gaming League and will be a free entry for all taking place at the Kaizer Chiefs Esports Stage.
You can sign up on their website
Where: Exhibition Hall 2, Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg, South Africa
- Friday: 10am – 8pm
- Saturday: 9am – 9pm
- Sunday: 9am – 4pm
The tournament will be played on PlayStation 4. Entry to Rush is free to all registered Kaizer Chiefs Esports Tournament players. Walk-ins will be accepted and allocated a spot in the next available Leg. Qualifying players (top 4 per heat) must be available for Sunday’s finals.
Kaizer Chiefs showing interest in esports? I think we’ll be reporting on a Kaizer Chiefs sponsored esports team in the near future.

If I was into the PSL and South African soccer, I would support the Chiefs. This article shows that they are trendsetters. This is a clever way to attract more fans to their club.
