Kalahari slashes the price of the 360

Xbox 360 special

I just received my weekly Kalahari.net email and was shocked to see the offer for this week.

They are selling a Xbox 360 premium, with 4 good games (Forza 2, FIFA 2008, WWE 08 and Viva Pinata) for R2699 including overnight delivery.

Just remember these are the older consoles without HDMI ports and more susceptible to RROD. However they do have the 3 year warranty and mine has been chugging along for quite some time already with no problems what so ever.

After the price cuts take effect the price will be taken back up to R2999 without any games bundled so if you were thinking about buying one do it now….

The component video cable and the digital audio out will do the job of the HDMI cable.

@Lazy- I’m sure you did an article a long time ago I think from Tomshardware explaining that component and HDMI is similar.

Not to sure where to post this

We all love the PS3 here, but why? Why do we love the PS3 over the 360?

Personally, because I want my console to work, the 360 fails with it’s nightmare red rings of death in normal conditions, and well, the PS3 can’t be killed under even the most extreme gaming conditions.

360 is now using a lost HD format, while PS3 comes loaded with Blu-ray, and a whole lot more cool stuff.

But what really does it, according to Sony themselves, is that they do not offer anything for the gamer, past the FPS crowd. Sony has said that Microsoft failed to capatalize on the year they had ahead because they failed to reach out to gamers past the FPS games.

“The time that they had to create huge distance and build a massive install base before the PS3 could really take root; that opportunity is over and there’s no real capitalization of it,” SCEA’s Scott Steinberg said.

“They had a great crescendo moment with Halo and it helped catapult them into a pretty strong position towards the back end of last year, but they were still within a stone’s throw of where they were with the original Xbox. To me that speaks of a failure to broaden their reach beyond the core first person shooter player who was in their back pocket for Xbox”.

“That’s the secret weapon, that’s what goes unreported. It’s this 41 million universe of PS2 owners that will be targeted very, very soon to upgrade to a PS3 Blu-ray machine,”

@PS3Fanboy, Do you even have an idea of what games the Xbox 360 has? If I were you I would by one now(because they are a lot more affordable than a PS3)and treat yourself. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

@Darthdad & Nduimiso: Everybody keeps resorting to more affordable as an advantage. I owned a Xbox 360. I had games for the Xbox 360. I don’t want a Xbox 360. I have the money for the better machine. I don’t need to settle for the cheaper option. If you could afford a PS3 I think you would be surprised at how cool it is.

If you had the money you could get a VW R32 (PS3) or a VW Citi Golf 1.6 (XBox 360), Wii is a Uno. They all do the same thing, get you from point A to B, but which would you rather travel in.

@PS3Fanboy, you right in a way. The Xbox 360 has alot of FPSs and TPSs. But I would not be surprised if you took a list of all the 360 titles and removed all the FPSs and TPSs, that the 360 would still have more games then the PS3’s entire list of games.

Another thing, besides MGS4, 3 other PS3 exclusives the PS3 crowd lauds over the 360 crowd as the second coming or something are what genre? Hint: The games I am speaking of are Resistance 2, Haze and Killzone 2. (3 marks)

Which is where you don’t get it apparently. If your console choice is about “getting you from A to B” go buy a Yaris.

I want a game console with awesome games that play well and challenge me with new ideas. Not some great big trojan horse who’s only gaming selling point is 10 year old treaded to death Franchises. I also like my console to be able to actually run the games properly, something the PS3 seems to struggle with.

Dont get me wrong the new 360 price is amazing. For people who don’t own 360’s.

@Doobiwan: I don’t think you get it. PS3 is the one that it packed with all the gizmo’s and gadgets. I have not had a single problem playing any games on the PS3, it has not struggled with a single game. Unlike 360’s RROD.

And If you did your research on PS3 Exclusives, you would notice there are a lot more games other than FPS titles.

Something tells me you are one of the biggest fan boys out there that doesn’t look at the situation realistically.

@PS3Fanboy, those last two sentences are quite something.
You should take the advice of the first one( for 360 games) and not take Sony’s comments in “Our games and stratagy are better than the competition’s” shocker as gospel. If you don’t then I am sorry, but your first post made you sound like you do.
The second one just described yourself, though in hindsight I should not have expected anything less from someone with a name like PS3Fanboy.

I know there are more games then just FPS on the PS3, I want one. Just waiting for the PS3 to become cheaper. I like all those obscure Japanese games that would never be released on the Xbox. Besides Bly-ray and Wifi what are all theses gizmos and gadgets you speak of? Like I said, I want one, so I am intrigued.

Untapped technology, everyone knows that the first bunch of games out on the PS2 where standard, no one would have ever thought a game like God of War II would be out on a system like that back in the day when the console was released. Same goes for the PS3. The games released now, which are the good games for the XBox 360 are merely standard games for the PS3.

Cool, this untapped technology sounds awesome. Kudos to Sony for including untapped technology in their consoles. But what does it do? And why is it not in the 360?

Hopefully MS and Sony will put Untapped technology in their next consoles.

I have to giggle when people acuse the 360 of being the “FPSBox” especially considering it’s Sony making with all he shooter exclusives: Haze, UT3, KZ2, Resistance 2 and MGS online.

You’d think they were envious or something 😉

I’ve been around long enough, I’ve done bells and whistles, I’ve done featuritus, one thing lifes taught me it’s simply “know what you need & under no circumstances trust a salesman”. PS3f, quotes from Sony execs holds absolutely no weight.

But you know what? They’re right about the PS2 owners. Who bought at $200. Who will now by 360’s. For enlightenment just read my blog 😉

Xbox 360 games are just standard for PS3, thats funny since the PS3 versions of those games have been inferior, you basically just said that the PS3 cant even play average games.

If you have the big 42 inch HD TV and want to watch BD movies then the PS3 is the way to go – however if you’re buying a console to play games on then the Xbox makes a lot of sense. This is not to insinuate that the PS3 does not have any good games , but for the same price as a ps3 (R5500 bundled with 2 games) you can get an Xbox360 with 4 bundled games and enough cash to buy 5 or 6 top quality titles (COD4 , Mass Effect , Bioshock , Halo 3 , etc.). The fact that the X360 has been out for longer also means you will find a lot more quality titles in the bargain bin at discounted prices.

I’ll just second what bhw said & add, that extends to playing online with other people as well. While both consoles offer the ability the 360 is engineered around online services and offers the better (although paid for) service, whereas the PS3 is still coming up to speed.

    Either way.. the consumer wins…

    What happens next is:
    – 360 sales rise
    – Sony cuts price
    – PS3 sales rise

(I’m still holding out for the PS3 price cut, or the MGS4 package, whichever is first)

Reason I haven’t bought a 360 is that I’m a primarily a PC gamer. And 2 months after a 360 “exclusive” is released, it comes out on the PC with additional content/features/better gfx.

So I see no point in ever owning a 360.

@Abe, I think it is highly debatable whether or not any PS3 games have better online functionality than their 360 equivalents…

Remember one of the most common winning points for the PSN is server based gameplay which is the death knoll for any of us since the lag is terrible.

peer to peer is easily the best option for SA gamers

@lazy, lag what lag? Cant say I have ever suffered lag!
And I only have a 384 line. My point was merely that claiming live is the better service isnt so blatantly valid anymore, as you said the lines are much more blurred now!

@Abe, this is nothing against PSN or even Telkom for that matter. It is unfortunately physically impossible for you not to lag when playing against people on a server in the USA, Japan or Europe.

It is purely down to physics, the data cannot get down the line to the server and back again quick enough to cater for a proper FPS styled game (COD4, Warhawk etc)….

The clever developers hide the lag very well but it is there.
For us local gamers we either need a local server or perr to peer connections

@Lazy I have played games with my brother on PS3 and there is no lag at all. I am assuming in peer to peer games or co-op games like that there is no lag as long as you are playing with someone in SA and as long as they are not using iBurst. However if you play with someone in the UK there will be lag whether you are using PSN or XBoxLive?

@Abe if you don’t experience any difference in gameplay between local and international games, then I’m afraid to say you must really, really suck. 😉

You quoting PS3 fanboys again? There are no games better on PSN than XBL. Even if the gameplay is the same, XBL still wins with unified invites, unified voice, a bigger community and achievements.

    @Messiah – as good as :p
With gamepointsnow opening up? You get as great an experience as you could wish from a local Live service.
