The Kiev Major has offered viewers some of the most exciting and exhilarating Dota 2 this year. From an upsetting group stage, the playoffs were no different as four teams were sent packing on day one.

Virtus.Pro and Team Secret ended off the group stage in top positions, and they continued their dominance on day one of the playoffs. VP went up against Invictus Gaming Vitality in what was the shortest game of the tournament. VP destroyed IG in two quick successive matches sending the Chinese hopefuls packing.

While IG.Vitality had a rough group stage, coming second last, the big upsets for the day were the somewhat expected exit of Newbee, one of the strongest teams coming in from China. Taking only two matches in the group stage, Newbee had a tough hill to climb against Team Liquid. Getting the full run of three games, Newbee eventually conceded the final game 2-1 to be sent home on day one.

Digital Chaos and Boston Major runner-ups Mousesports were the last two teams to go home on day one after losing to Vici Gaming’s VGJ and Invictus Gaming respectively. Digital Chaos were quite the upset as they came into the playoffs with 7th seed up against VGJ in 10th.

Day two is underway with TNC vs. Faceless, one of the hottest games of the day. Day two will also see some of the biggest names taking place including IG, OG, Random (former Wings) and more. TNC are still the “dark horse” as the Philipinos continue to upset the balance.
