Kojima Is Already Brooding On MGS5

Yeah guys and girls, gaming icon and mastermind behind the MGS franchise, Hideo Kojima has stepped in to tell the team that he already has three ideas for MGS5. But because of the fact that he’s sitting out on the 5th title of the series, he hasn’t told them what his ideas were. This was pretty evident as he said to 1UP,

I have three concepts for MGS5 already. What would be ideal for me with MGS5, though, is that we don’t do those… If the team picks one of those concepts, I have to get involved again, which I don’t want to do.

There’s a word that comes to mind – ‘tease’. Then again he is well-known for his teasing, if you remember his E3 website build-up. But in his defense, he did go on to explain by saying,

There are already so many good ideas from the staff, so if we select one of those, that would be really good. At that point I could really rely on them and take the step back to be the producer, which is the ideal situation, I think.

I just hope that for the sake of the popular MGS franchise, this isn’t a case of James Cameron not directing Terminator 3 (which in my opinion was a total stuff up). But fans fear not for Hideo aint out of the picture just yet and has no plans to retire. In actual fact he’s currently working on another title that he had placed on the back burner for quite a while as he stated that,

Well, I want to create something new, and it’s difficult to explain since no one’s seen it before. I don’t know if it would sell very well… I’ve been warming this up for a long time, and I keep thinking that I’ll try this idea. But ideas always change, so I really don’t know what the final outcome will be.

Subsequently though I have to wonder whether or not he’ll be up to the challenge of producing something other than MGS titles… after working on what has become a quintessential and iconic gaming franchise for such a long time, will he still be able to bring it? (excuse the reference to a crappy cheerleading film).
