Kojima plays the first 13 minutes of MGS4

55 second read

MGS4 is officially ready.. how do we know this? Well Kojima threw a completion party where he took the seat of honour and proceeded to play through the first 13 minutes of the game while everyone watched….

Remind me not to invite him to my parties…

Anyway back to the point, the graphics look awesome, the story seems epic and the size of the game (maps) is beginning to emerge…

However it has become plain to me that this just isn’t my type of game. It took me 3 hours to watch the 13 minutes because I kept on pausing it to go find something more interesting to do…

I just don’t get it, then I chat to Pillsbury about it and he speaks of it as the second coming, I will get play this game to see what I am missing though. I am starting to feel left out…

Did you play any of the previous ones?

Maybe you need that history, kinda like when i see Halo3 and just don’t get it. I mean GoW looks like a much better game but that didn’t get all the 10s.

MGS is a strange one, as cheesy as the story and characters are once you get drawn in then that’s it. Plus it’s great to play a shooter where you don’t just have to run into hoards of enemies dead on all the time.

@ Lazy, I’m going to write a mini-thesis before MGS4 drops to catch everyone up as to why MGS is a big deal – as I believe, at least. Then, about a month after MGS4, if it turns out to be all I expect it to be, I will write another mini-thesis explaining why it is a big deal. Much of the lore lies in playing the game. Much of the lore lies in being absolutely bemused by the absurdity of the game’s and its narrative. Much of the lore resides in Metal Gear’s astronomical and unmatched production value – until GTA IV came along, nothing even smelt MGS’s production value.

It’s not everyone’s cup of tea – I’ll admit – just like Cinema Nouveu doesn’t do it for everybody, but, seriously, on merit alone, one cannot deny Metal Gear its place in gaming history.

If you could do the whole “the story so far” that would be awesome!! i dont believe this game will be the 2nd coming but i do believe its gonna b freakin amazing!! and im borrowing my friends ps3 for it. Some1 tried to explain the whole 4 different snakes but he seemed to confuse himself more than anything else… 🙂

Since I am a console-n00b coming from a PC background, I’ve never played MGS before. I’ve been watching this one pretty closely though, and I’m quite excited for it.

Perhaps this isn’t your type of game Lazy, perhaps it isn’t mine either, but this video certainly blew me away… It looks and SOUNDS incredible! Can’t wait to try it.

Yeah I’m in the same boat as you are. I’ve no MGS xp but I’ve pre ordered and paid for MGS4 already. Maybe the hype caught me out, but hey, it caught me out with GTA4 as well and I can’t say I’m disappointent 🙂

I don’t think it is my type of game which is why I am getting others to write about and review it 😉

However I am interested to see why this game is so much better than Splinter Cell, which was fun but I got bored quickly

MGS has always been about the story/plot for me, these huge conspiracy theories etc. Combine with memorable characters with distinct personalities coupled with a extremely cinematic feeling you get due to the combination of the above and increadibly cutscenes and really complex plot.

I have always hated any form of 1st and 3rd person shooters on consoles and to this day the only ones I liked was MGS series and Uncharted.

You can most probably sit next to someone playing the game and enjoy it *almost* just as much just watching how it unfolds ( depending on how much you enjoy the gameplay offcourse )

Thats what I love about it

I’m a fan of the series and there’s not another game being released in ’08 that i’m looking forward to more, on either platform. It’s of course subjective to the type of games you enjoy, but for me, there’s no bigger game out there this year(GTAIV included). Roll on June 12th 😀

Appparently about 30 hours with two-thirds gameplay and one third cut-scenes, etc, according to the guy who did the first review.

All you do is rip something else.

I have to assume you’re referring to the article since you posted your comment below it… however I struggle to see where Lazy has “rip”{ed} anything? he
s merely stated that he has no interest in the game, which is his opinion (and he is entitled to his own opinion), for him to rip the game he’d have to follow it with something crued and offensive about the game on the contrary he does the opposite

“Anyway back to the point, the graphics look awesome, the story seems epic and the size of the game (maps) is beginning to emerge…”

Jak you have to understand that not everyone is going to love all games, just like some people think that some other games are a waste of time, it’s just not their game, deal with it.

IMHO Lazy has done his utmost to be objective with all his articles. if you don’t feel he’s done so then no-one is forcing you to be here either 😉
